Recently acquired Hotel Villa del Sol becomes second international incarnation as luxury brand grows from its original South Beach flagship
Advancing the international expansion of its recently launched Tides brand of luxury hotels and resorts, Los Angeles-based Kor Hotel Group announces the transformation of its newest Mexico acquisition, Hotel Villa del Sol on the Mexican Riviera, into The Tides Zihuatanejo. To welcome the resort into The Tides family of elite properties, Kor has introduced an array of signature Tides amenities to suit the brand's coastal, vibrant spirit, including an enhanced beach experience, exclusive butler services, and a seafood-themed restaurant offering private lagoon dining. Recently appointed General Manager, Carlos Blanco, previously with Jumby Bay in Antigua, has led the resort's transformation to-date and continues to work with the staff to build upon the resort's success.
"Kor Hotel Group continues to challenge traditional concepts of luxury hospitality through its commitment to provocative design and intuitive service in the most sought-after locations," said Nicholas Clayton, President of Kor Hotel Group. "The Tides brand plays a key role in this strategy, offering chic beachfront resorts that emit a spirited, romantic ambience designed for travel connoisseurs who share our vision. Naturally, Kor reserves The Tides identity for singular properties of only the finest standards. Kor has chosen to re-brand Hotel Villa del Sol, highlighting the consistent delivery of quality there and the resort's eagerness to adopt the luxury practices Kor creates at each Tides property," concluded Clayton.
Like all Tides-branded resorts, beginning with the flagship South Beach location, The Tides Zihuatanejo is known for its sophisticated, yet casual beachfront presence, enviable location and unsurpassed service standards. Nestled above a picturesque fishing village on Mexico's Pacific coastline, the resort reclines along Zihuatanejo Bay's pristine Playa la Ropa. Enchanting two-story, adobe-inspired casitas house the resort's 35 guestrooms and 35 suites in a garden-setting rich with coconut, bamboo, rainbow-hued bougainvillea and vibrant hibiscus. Infinity pools glisten alongside waterfalls and fountains, and a 600-foot palm-studded beach exudes extraordinary tranquility.
Beautiful Beaches, Dutiful Butlers
Central to the relaxed allure of every Tides property is a memorable beachfront experience that consistently delivers on guests' needs. The Tides Zihuatanejo's newly enhanced beachfront lives up to this expectation with a number of enhancements, such as a high-noon complimentary beverage refresher service. To ensure non-interrupted relaxation time, Beach Butlers offer tanning products, neck cushions, pre-loaded iPods, pool and ocean-side dining, and cocktail services. After dark, The Tides Zihuatanejo's sparkling stretch of sand succumbs to the sultry mystique of a bonfire beach lounge. Beach butlers attend to every comfort and take orders for libations of any kind at the lounge. Trained by Robert Watson, founder of "The Guild of Professional English Butlers," The Tides' new Mayordomos are available to guests of the resort's Presidential Suite, with plans for a suite-wide offering. Delivering advanced service, Mayordomos anticipate guests' every need and are on call 24/7, attending all requests from in-suite dining to airport transfers.
Fruits of the Sea
The Tides name evokes coastal serenity and ocean-inspired pleasures - which inevitably means only the freshest seafood. The resort's new brand-signature La Marea restaurant offers a beach club ambience and carefully crafted menus of Mediterranean/Mexican fare. To oversee the transformation of the resort's kitchen, Chef Robbin Haas (of South Beach "Mango Gang" fame) has lent his culinary expertise, as he did for La Marea's opening at The Tides South Beach. The newly renamed Coral Bar offers colorful ceviche selections comprised of daily creations and a Tequila Maestro who facilitates tastings of Mexico's world-famous spirit in a variety of premium offerings, including blanco, reposado and añejo tequilas.
For the ultimate romantic dining experience, the resort offers a private lagoon dinner on an intimate island in the resort's tranquil lagoon which is quietly accessed by canoe. Couples dine amidst lush foliage alive with candles and music, and are discreetly waited-on by a single server.
Holistic Wellness
The resort's intimate spa will soon be re-envisioned to include hacienda-like interiors, updated spa suites and an inspiring relaxation lounge. The Tides Zihuatanejo spa will be the first spa, world-wide, to offer guests a Tides signature lava-shell therapy massage, a sustainable treatment utilizing only self-heating sea-shells in its process. As another first, Zihuatanejo will also be the first property to launch a brand-wide line of marine-derived, sustainable wellness products by Osea.
The Rising Tides
Ongoing expansion of The Tides brand comprises a vital component of Kor Hotel Group's overall growth strategy. The company continues to carve out a distinctive niche in the luxury-tier of the hotel industry, basing its growth on the brand's original locale, The Tides South Beach (set to unveil Fall 2007). The Tides' international reach initiated in Spring 2007, with the repositioning of Ikal del Mar in Mexico as The Tides Riviera Maya and continues in Mexico with The Tides Zihuatanejo. Over the next few years, Kor will unveil impressive ground-up Tides destinations, including The Tides Playa del Carmen, with Playa's largest beachfront property and The Tides Anguilla on the pristine waters of the British West Indies.
