The Westin New York at Times Square Taps Into Its Healthy Roots & Unveils Walking Program

Studies have proven that walking has positive benefits including improved overall health and better sleep patterns. To encourage increased physical activity and promoting a healthy lifestyle on the road, The Westin New York at Times Square is launching Walk This Way, a program encouraging visitors to see the city by foot. Available upon request, Walk This Way arms pedestrians with a pedometer, pocket-sized maps of three- and five-mile loops from the hotel, and must-see Big Apple hot-spots. Whether traveling for business or for pleasure, the award-winning property, named one of America’s Top 11 Healthiest Hotels,* will provide guests with the tools to walk their way to wellness…and have fun doing it!

Fitness fanatics who return their pedometer showing that they have walked 10,000 steps in one day, the daily amount recommended by The American Heart Foundation, will receive a 15% discount to the spa, to sooth tired legs and feet.

To ensure the healthy lifestyle continues regardless of weather conditions, guests showing over 10,000 steps will also receive a complimentary upgrade to a WestinWORKOUT Room for a return stay. ** WestinWORKOUT Rooms feature a Life Fitness Treadmill or Reebok Tomahawk XL Indoor Cycle, a custom-designed fitness shelf that holds Reebok Pilates/Yoga and Spinning DVDs, dumbbells, resistance tubing, a stability ball, yoga mat and additional Reebok workout equipment.

For the average person, 10,000 steps is about 7.5 miles. Travelers can escape the underground subway and walk to some of these New York favorites from The Westin New York at Times Square and back to rack up 10,000 steps in no time (approximate round-trip distance in miles):

Bryant Park: 1.8
Empire State Building: 1.4
