After a strategic focus on people-centered practices, Gallup found that Kerzner International had continued to put colleague engagement at the centre of their business strategy, cultivating their colleagues through bold and empowering practices that protect their wellbeing, allowing them to realise their remarkable potential.
“Kerzner International continues to rank among the most engaged workplaces in the world, which is testament to us purposefully placing the emotional experience of both our guests and colleagues at the heart of our overall business strategy,” states Philippe Zuber, Chief Executive Officer, Kerzner International.
“The last 12 months have been a record-breaking success for our organisation, and it is no coincidence that the growth we are seeing as a business is happening in parallel with our industry-leading engagement programme transformation. This recognition is proof that we are driving business results far beyond the competition by connecting colleague engagement to every aspect of our culture.”
Kerzner International’s engagement strategy includes an all-encompassing wellness programme, ‘Balance – For A Better You’, built from four pillars; Physical - to promote, support and improve our colleagues’ physical health and wellbeing; Social & Community - to enable our colleagues to connect with the community and each other; Emotional - to support and equip our colleagues to achieve self-mastery; and Financial - to support and educate our colleagues about personal financial health. Initiatives under this programme include a unique Skin Cancer Prevention campaign, wellness screenings, financial health workshops and a Colleague Assistance Platform which provides immediate access to someone who can help with emotional or practical advice.
Also included in Kerzner International’s engagement programme is the One&Only brand’s service culture ‘We Create Joy’, the Atlantis brand’s ‘Extraordinary – Larger Than Life’ service culture and the Rare Finds’ service culture, ‘We Are Unique’ – all of which define their colleagues’ purpose and set the tone for incredible guest experiences.
Other key highlights include their in-depth performance and goals structure, and the development of the organisation’s purpose – Legacy Makers – which is the company’s enduring essence, setting the tone for their entire corporate culture.
“In recent years we have taken the approach to educate colleagues about engagement and about owning their own engagement. We have also put a strong focus on accountability, which has led to an impressive increase in engaged colleagues,” explains Stuart Thomson, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, Kerzner International.
“A key focus moving forward will be on holding leaders and managers accountable for listening, discussing, and taking action, as well as having ongoing conversations with their team members, involving them in the entire engagement journey.”
The GEWA was created to celebrate those who achieve exceptional performance by fostering a culture of engagement.
The award honours thriving organisations that have attained world-class performance by making engagement a cornerstone of their business strategy.
Organisations that satisfy the minimum criteria are invited to apply for the award by submitting detailed evidence of their culture of performance, centered around pillars including strategy and leadership, performance and accountability, communication and knowledge management, and development and ongoing learning. A panel of Gallup judges then reviews and scores all applications.
