Ms. Öktem brings to her new position more than 17 years of experience in the luxury hospitality industry, many of which she spent in executive sales roles at top-tier hotels in her native Turkey.
Prior to joining the pre-opening team at The Peninsula Istanbul, Ms. Öktem occupied the position of Executive Assistant Manager in charge of Sales & Marketing and Rooms at the Shangri-La Bosphorus.
She previously served in the same capacity at the Grand Tarabya Istanbul, The Ritz-Carlton Istanbul, and Kempinski Barbaros Bay Bodrum, and Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul. Ms. Öktem also sits on the supervisory board of TUED, the International Events Association of Turkey, that represents ILEA.(the International Live Events Association).
In her new role at The Peninsula Istanbul, Ms. Öktem will oversee all sales and marketing initiatives for the newest property in The Peninsula Hotels’ luxury portfolio – including sales, revenue management, brand marketing and communications, digital marketing, and events.
“We are overjoyed to have Özlem’s expertise as we prepare to unveil our hotel early next year,” said Jonathan Crook, Managing Director of The Peninsula Istanbul.
“We know her deep knowledge of the hospitality industry, and of this distinctive city, will help us provide the superlative experience that guests have come to expect of The Peninsula Hotels.”
Set amid expansive gardens fronting the Bosphorus, The Peninsula Istanbul showcases the unique vibrancy of Turkish culture. Part of the Galataport project, the property occupies a quartet of graceful waterfront buildings, three of them refurbished historical landmarks, in the heart of Istanbul’s historic Karaköy district.
Offering 177 lavishly appointed rooms and suites, exquisite dining and gathering venues, a private boat dock, opulent indoor and outdoor pools, a sumptuous spa, and luxury boutiques, the hotel is also close to many of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Galata Tower, Galata Bridge, and the famous Sultanahmet District – home to The Hagia Sophia, The Blue Mosque, and Topkapi Palace.
