With another four hotels set to open by the end of the year including Canopy by Hilton London City, The Samuel Ryder Hotel St Albans, Tapestry Collection by Hilton and Hilton Woking, Hilton has already welcomed nearly 1,000 new Team Members since hospitality was able to reopen to holidaymakers in England on May 17.

As one of the top places to work in hospitality, there are a variety of careers on offer across all areas of the hotels, including Mixologists, Beauty Therapists, Breakfast Chefs and Housekeepers.

For over a century, Hilton has adapted to the evolving needs of its teams, offering a huge number of opportunities for personal development including apprenticeships, graduate programmes, sabbaticals, and flexible working.

Ranking as #1 on the UK’s Best Workplaces list and #3 on the UK’s Best Workplaces For Women list by Great Place to Work*, Hilton is committed to creating a diverse and exceptional workplace culture, supporting Team Members in achieving both personal and professional goals.

Julie Baker, UK&I vice president Operations, Hilton said: “Whether you’re looking for better flexibility, career progression or want to embrace something completely new, a career at Hilton can offer a real world of opportunity. Our Team Members sit at the very heart of our business, so we’re focussed on creating the best environment where our Team Members can truly thrive.”

By working with organisations such as Foxes Academy, Springboard, the Armed Forces, as well as recruiting for over 150 Team Members this year from the government-backed Kickstart scheme, Hilton is constantly widening its talent pool and working towards an even more diverse workforce.

Team Member Case Study: Martin Rowe, chief engineer at Hilton Brighton Metropole

With 22 years’ experience as a chief engineer in the Navy serving on HMS Ocean, Edinburgh and Westminster among others, Martin recently launched a new career as chief engineer at Hilton Brighton Metropole.

Joining Hilton during the pandemic, Martin wanted a flexible role closer to home which would allow him to utilise the skills from his previous job with the Royal Navy, where he was responsible for supervising the operation, maintenance, and repair of ships equipment, tools and facilities.

Now, he uses this expertise to quickly solve engineering problems at the 340-room seafront hotel — the largest in Brighton.

Martin said: “It was difficult to decide what I wanted to do next after leaving the Navy and I never thought I would end up working in hospitality — but since joining Hilton, I’ve not looked back. Every day I enjoy a fresh challenge using the skills I developed during my naval career, with the added bonus that I can be closer to my family.

“It’s been surprising to see the parallels in my career at Hilton and in the Navy. We have similar planning processes and both workplaces really focus on comradery and unity. The job came naturally to me and the people here are like an extended family, so it felt like a seamless transition into a career at Hilton.”

Hilton has a long history of supporting Armed Forces personnel in forging new careers when they leave the service and has been recognised with a Silver Award for its support of the defence and the armed forces community through the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).

Team Member Case Study: Ellie Dennis. F&B assistant at Hilton Cobham

Currently a Travel and Tourism student at Guildford College, 17-year-old Ellie has recently embarked upon the first steps in her hospitality career with a position at Hilton Cobham in Surrey.

Ellie joined the hotel as a Food & Beverage assistant — a role which involves greeting and serving guests during breakfast and dinner and ensuring every guest has a great experience — not to mention providing her guidance on the best dishes on the menu!

When she returns to college in September, Ellie will continue to work at the hotel alongside her studies and hopes to secure a full-time position on the team once she’s finished her exams.

Ellie said: “Working in hospitality is my dream job — I love meeting new people, building relationships, and seeing the smile on our guests’ faces when they have had an enjoyable stay. Having worked at the hotel for a few weeks, I’ve already built some strong connections with regular guests — in some cases I know their breakfast orders better than they do! My ambition is to progress to Front Office manager, and I’m really enjoying building up the skills I’ll need. I’d recommend a career in hospitality to anyone —– especially those who get on well with people, enjoy helping others and can think quickly on their feet. There are so many exciting opportunities at Hilton and I can’t wait to see where this job and my studies take me!”

*Hilton ranked as #1 in the ‘Super Large’ category of the UK’s Best Workplaces list and #3 in the ‘Super Large’ category of the UK’s Best Workplaces For Women list by Great Place to Work.
