First Property to Operate in Mainland China for Hoshino Resorts
Hoshino Resorts, a hotel management company that operates over 40 properties within and outside of Japan, will be opening a hotel in Tiantai Mountain, Zhejiang Province of China. This is the first property in mainland China to be operated by Hoshino Resorts, where other properties outside of Japan include “HOSHINOYA Bali” in Ubud, Bali, “HOSHINOYA Guguan” in Taichung, Taiwan, and “Hoshino Resorts Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club” in Hawaii, USA. The building is reminiscent of good old China and has 103 guest rooms, dining areas, pool, gym, spa, and library lounge. Surrounded by vast nature, the property aims to offer a stay away from the busy, everyday life.
Characteristic 1: Guest Rooms with a Beautiful View of the Mountains and Classic Gardens
The concept of the guest rooms is “Rokonseijyo (*1),” which is part of Zen Buddhism. Dengyo Daishi Saicho, the founder of the Tendai sect in Japan, studied Tendai teachings at the Tiantai Mountains. Our wish for guests to be able to spend a stress-free stay, relieved from the worries of daily life, at a place surrounded by nature and history is incorporated in the concept. The room is created in a way that makes one feel freed and relaxed by having large windows that frames the view, traditional Chinese furniture and decorations, and warm lighting.
*1 Rokonseijyo is to be pure by refusing the hesitation that arises from the “six roots (rokon)” (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, meaning) in the Zen language.

Characteristic 2: Dining incorporating the essences of Traditional Chinese and Japanese
For breakfast, a buffet of drinks and fruits in addition to the main breakfast set of either Japanese, Western or Chinese can be enjoyed. Dinner will be ala carte style. Many chefs gathered to Zhejiang Province because it was the capital back in the Song dynasty. In addition, the area is blessed with ingredients such as seafood from the East China Sea and a wide variety of vegetables from inland, which led to the development of unique food culture. With these ingredients, a variety of dishes from local cuisine to Japanese will be served.
Characteristic 3: Tiantai Mountain -The Birthplace of Tendai sect
Tiantai Mountain district is China’s “National 5A-class tourist attractions (*2).” Due to its religious and cultural background, and abundant nature, it is known as the birthplace of the Tendai sect and Taoism with beautiful mountains and water.
Temples are scattered around the valleys of the peaks at an altitude of around 1,200 meters, and one of them, the Guoqing Temple, is the birthplace of the Chinese Tendai sect, where it has been attracting those of the Buddhism faith since a long ago. Dengyo Daishi Saicho, the founder of the Tendai sect in Japan, entered Tiantai Mountain in the Heian period to study Tendai teachings at Guoqing Temple and later opened the Tendai sect in Japan at Enryaku Temple located in the Hiei Mountain. Since then, many Japanese monks have visited Tiantai Mountain and so, it is a place that has been in connection with Japan for a long time.
The abundant nature where you can feel the changing seasons is one of the features of this location and there are many scenic areas such as the Taizhou Shiliang Waterfall, Huading National Forest Park, and the Qiongtai Valley. Moreover, it is famous for the 1,000 different kinds of Chinese herbs that grow at high altitudes, such as high mountain Yunwu tea, and citrus fruits.
