The hotel’s décor has been carefully considered and it combines spectacular features, such as the monumental light in the lobby, with other simpler ones, to create a renovated and very elegant classic style, with nods to the 1960s.

Riu Palace Oasis has just reopened its doors in Gran Canaria, following a spectacular makeover. RIU has undertaken five months of work to now be able to present a modern and elegant hotel with new restaurants, bars and services.

“We are very satisfied with the project undertaken at the Riu Palace Oasis Hotel. The increased quality of the facilities, the new range of services and the attention to design and décor have enabled us to earn, once again, the five-star rating that this exceptional hotel deserves. The total amount invested in the project is 40 million Euros. An amount which includes the 14 million spent on labour, as well as expenditures on the equipment, the infrastructure, the decoration and interior design, as well as all the consequential costs.” explained Luis Riu, CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts.

One of the most striking changes has been made in the lobby, where the ceiling height has increased from 2.2 metres to a spectacular 5 metres. The mirrored columns have been replaced by stunning white pillars that form a marble passage leading guests directly to reception, where an onyx reception desk has been installed. The first thing guests perceive is a sense of luxury and space. At the very centre of this passage, there is a magnificent art installation. It is a large skylight at the centre of the lobby that emulates a monumental chandelier and that is inspired by the dunes of Maspalomas, with enormous teardrops of sand-coloured glass.

The hotel’s décor is full of details, works of art, features and high-quality materials that guests can discover gradually as they enjoy their stay. Natural light is another defining characteristic of this project, together with the terraces and outdoor spaces where guests can enjoy the hotel’s magnificent garden and the area’s excellent climate. In particular, respecting the existing palm trees has created unique spaces both on the terraces and even inside the hotel. In fact, the botanical restaurant has real indoor palm trees!

Another main attraction of the Riu Palace Oasis is the creation of a new type of room: the exclusive swim-up doubles, 43 rooms which enjoy their own private pools. Following the refurbishment, the 415 rooms have a discreet and elegant style. The simple straight lines of the furniture blend with decorative features that are reminiscent of the style of the 1960s, the decade in which this building was originally constructed. The selected colour palette consists of grey, black and white, combined with wood for a touch of warmth. The refurbished classic style extends to the bathrooms, all of which are newly built, in which white is the predominant colour.

With the new half-board arrangement, guests of the Riu Palace Oasis can choose from several gastronomic options: the fusion cooking specialities of “Krystal” restaurant, the show kitchen and buffet of the main “Promenade” restaurant, and a variety of snacks at the “Botánico” restaurant which also serves Spanish cuisine in the evenings. The hotel also has a bar, “The Palm”, a lounge bar, “Lido”, and the lobby bar, “Onix”. The unique décor in each of them is an important part of the guest’s experience.

The communal areas have also been refurbished, and the hotel now offers four pools, one of which is for children and it is located in the new kids’ club, RiuLand. The gym has also undergone a complete makeover, as have the spa area and the car park, which is particularly useful to local customers who visit the hotel.

The Riu Palace Oasis is now the sixth RIU hotel in Gran Canaria to be refurbished, and only Riu Palmeras and Riu Palace Maspalomas remain to be renovated as part of the chain’s plan to update all of its hotels on the island.
