Hotel Europe, Killarney, Co. Kerry, which has operated as an hotel since 1962, has closed its doors for 2006 to commence renovation of the property to the tune of €40 million Euro.

The hotel, a luxury 5 star property on the shores of Lough Lein, will become one of Irelands finest resorts incorporating a 50,000 sq. ft. Spa offering 21 treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor pools and a lifestyle restaurant, a remodelled Conference Centre and completely renovated and extended public areas.

The Conference Centre, designed by Gottstein Architects in Dublin, will be a multi-purpose building which can cater for both meetings and functions. All rooms will have floor to ceiling picture windows and double glass doors leading to the new garden terraces. All areas will be installed with a fully integrated, top of the range audio visual system and will be linked to one another at a variety of sources for complete accessibility.

The Hotel Europe Spa, designed by E'Spa, will be a two level structure with magnificent views over the lakes and mountains from many of the rooms. The new outdoor pool will sit on the lakeshore and offer spa guests a novel relaxation experience.

The public areas will be greatly enhanced by the addition of a two storey atrium with a viewing gallery in the front lobby. All existing public areas will be extended and offer greater access to the gardens.

Commenting on the developments, Michael Brennan, Manager of Hotel Europe said 'Investment of this magnitude in the tourism product reconfirms the commitment of Killarney Hotels to push the boundaries of the 5 star market. I believe this a truly unique development in an incomparable location that will prosper in today's competitive environment'.
