In the Africa and Middle East region the company now operates 23 hotels
Meliá Hotels International has announced an agreement for the new Meliá Maputo Hotel, the first for the company in Mozambique, allowing it to extend its presence in Africa to one of the emerging markets on a continent where it now operates 11 hotels.
In the centre of the capital Maputo and just 10 minutes from the train station and 20 minutes from the international airport, the hotel enjoys a prime location for both leisure and business travellers. Within walking distance are some of the most emblematic attractions in Maputo such as the National Art Museum, the Cathedral and the Jardim dos Profesores Park. The Meliá Maputo aims to become one of the leading international hotels in the city in the premium category.
The hotel is in the final stages of preparation and is scheduled to open this year. It will provide all the attributes of the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, a brand which continues to grow internationally thanks to its highly differentiated and innovative spaces, experiences and services to meet the needs of modern travellers, always inspired by the traditions of Spanish hospitality.
The Meliá Maputo Hotel will offer 171 rooms and suites and facilities for meetings and events including two event rooms and an auditorium for up to 150 people.
The hotel will also provide first class dining facilities in its restaurant, which is expected to become the ideal meeting place for working lunches or dinner and events in Maputo thanks to its large capacity. The hotel will also provide a coffee bar.
Maputo has become a more popular travel destination over recent years. With its Mediterranean-style architecture, seaside location and large avenues such as the Avenida Marginal, it is one of the most attractive capital cities in Africa. Visitors can find great dining, shopping and leisure facilities in the city as well as a broad range of cultural attractions. The heart of the city is full of life, especially in the Baix district, the old town northwest of the port and just a couple of minutes from the Meliá Maputo. A presence in Maputo is expected to open the doors for Meliá to potential growth in other vacation destinations in the country thanks to the growing popularity of travel to Mozambique. In addition, Maputo is the centre of business and commerce in the country, which makes the city a destination of interest for those who travel for business.
The agreement for this hotel is the result of the partnership between Meliá Hotels International and the Portuguese hotel group Hoti Hoteis.
