Six Senses Resorts & Spas announced today that their 5-star Evason brand will be introduced to the Maldives with Evason Laamu – located on Olhuveli Island in Laamu Atoll, in the south of the Indian Ocean archipelago nation.

Evason Laamu will consist of about 100 villas. Some of the villas are to be located on the beach – all with private plunge pools of 15 square metres. The footprint of each villa with pool and garden will cover about 145 square metres. Most of the villas will be over-water, and positioned in a way that guest privacy is assured. Adhering to the natural design concepts for which the Six Senses creative team is renowned, jute finishes are likely to be featured inside and out, highlighting the harmony of a rounded architectural style. Some of the over-water villas will have glass dining tables which allow views to the coral and marine life below the deck. They will also include outdoor rain showers, water gardens, private sundecks and outdoor seating areas.

There is a plan to build about 12 Over-Water Villa Suites in duplex style with indoor-outdoor bathrooms and a water slide to the lagoon from the upper level. These suites will have a floor area of upto 290 square metres, and may be located some distance from the main island. The plan is that they will be totally detached from the island and linked together by a central jetty. This independent jetty will also offer about 24 water villas plus a restaurant, bar and wine cellar, guest library, kid’s den and a satellite Six Senses Spa.

With the Evason brand theme being Redefining Experiences, Evason Laamu will feature an under water restaurant which converts to a chillout lounge with DJ, and an above water restaurant with cooking hut, ice cream parlour, pastry shop, White and Brown Bars and a Chef’s Table. The over-water duplex wine ‘cellar’ will have cheese and charchuterie rooms, and as with all Six Senses properties, will offer wine tastings and degustation dinners. A third restaurant will feature organic dishes and will be located above the vegetable garden.

A Six Senses Spa will be a key element of the resort. Located ashore, the stilted treatment areas will be interconnected with rope and plank bridges giving the effect of bird houses nestled above lush foliage.

As with it’s sister Evason resorts in Phuket and Hua Hin - Thailand, and Evason Ana Mandara in Vietnam, Evason Laamu will include Just Kids – a kid’s club that offers fun challenges and adventure activities, plus a Kid’s Den. A large portion of the island to the rear of the resort will be left undeveloped in order to provide nature experiences for both kids and their parents. An additional attraction of the area is great surfing, which is just a five-minute speed boat ride away.

Flight time from Male International Airport is approximately 40 minutes to the domestic Kadhdhoo Airport, then a 20-minute boat ride to Olhuveli Island.

In addition to Evason Laamu, Six Senses currently operate two properties in the Maldives: The iconic Soneva Fushi – rated as the Best Of The Best In The World in 2002 by Conde Nast Traveller, and Soneva Gili – the Maldives first all-over-water resort and winner of Hideaway Of The Year in 2005 by prestigious Hideaways Magazine.
