The Steigenberger Hotel Group is the only company in Germany to have had all its European outlets certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 Standard by the ZER-QMS environmental certification body.

ISO 14001 puts a combination of methods in place to bring about a continuous improvement in a company's environmental performance. Relevant environmental objectives are defined for this purpose. Monitoring takes place in the form of audits carried out by an external organisation.

"Environmental management is an essential component of our corporate philosophy," said Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Steigenberger Hotels AG. "It is an issue which our employees have taken ownership of and is implemented on a daily basis."

The Steigenberger Hotel Group has been certified as having achieved major successes in resource efficiency by making enormous savings in the areas of electricity, water and waste. Since 2012, for example, consumption of water and electricity has been reduced by 15 and nine percent respectively.

Steigenberger has drawn up a "Best Practice Catalogue" to serve as a guide to the implementation of environmental management in all of its hotels. Nine specially trained members of staff are responsible for conducting internal audits.

Certification in accordance with ISO 14001 represents an important part of Steigenberger's overarching Corporate Responsibility Strategy. This strategy is based on the three pillars of social, ecological and economic responsibility and has resulted in numerous awards for the company. At this year's Meeting Experts Green Awards, for example, the Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt in Berlin, probably Germany's most sustainable conference hotel, won a prize ‘for its "Green meetings by Steigenberger" concept.

"We are very proud of being the environmental flagship project for the Steigenberger Hotel Group," added Torsten K. Schulze, Area General Manager for the Eastern Region and the Steigenberger Hotel Group's CR Representative. "The structure offered by a management system enables us to ensure continuous improvement in our environmental performance".

Steigenberger Hotels AG is one of Europe's leading hotel companies. From its Head Office in Germany, the Steigenberger Group operates 113 hotels on three continents including 21 which are under construction or at the planning stage.

Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts includes some of the most prestigious hotels in Europe, such as the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof and the Steigenberger Parkhotel in Düsseldorf. InterCityHotel is a medium-price brand that offers 38 hotels located in city centres and at airports. "Jaz in the City" is a new creative concept that will be launched in Amsterdam in the autumn of 2015.
