The new venture is part of Gordon Ramsay’s Group’s exclusive French partnership with the FIB Group (Financière Immobilière Bordelaise), which also owns the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace in Versailles.
Scottish by birth, Gordon Ramsay was brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Due to an injury he put an end to football and turned to hotel management. His dedication and natural talent led him to train with some of the world’s leading chefs, such as Albert Roux and Marco Pierre White in London, as well as Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon in France.
Having been rewarded with two Michelin stars at restaurant Aubergine in London, Ramsay set up at the age of 31 his first wholly owned and namesake restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, which quickly received three Michelin stars. Today, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is London’s longest-running restaurant to hold this award, and Ramsay is one of only four chefs in the UK to maintain three stars.
Ramsay will bring his innovative vision and distinctive take on haute cuisine to the Pressoir d’Argent, whose name derives from the rare presence of a solid silver lobster press in the dining room, made by Christofle – one of only five in the world. Its extraordinary use showcases how gastronomy is an art where flavours are worked on with the utmost attention to detail.
Commenting on the announcement, Gordon Ramsay states ‘I’m thrilled we are opening our second restaurant in France, following on from the two Michelin-starred Gordon Ramsay au Trianon in Versailles. To open a restaurant in the wine capital of France with its world-class vineyards and glorious regional produce is extremely exciting.
Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux & Spa has an incredible history dating back to 18th century and we are really looking forward to working with the hotel team at this incredible listed property in the heart of the City’s golden triangle."
Grand Hotel de Bordeaux owner Michel Ohayon comments ‘Le Pressoir d’Argent at Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux & Spa has forever been a timeless centrepiece in the Bordeaux community for fine dining. To me it felt most natural for Gordon Ramsay to take part in this project, which we have finalised in order to announce today. We are honoured to be one of the two restaurants in France to work with this internationally acclaimed chef, a real sign of the confidence that he grants us.
We always aim to take the hotel’s luxury experience to the next level and it is essential that Bordeaux is seen as a gastronomic destination. The new upcoming menu will showcase our local produce and will provide guests with the opportunity to enjoy Gordon Ramsay’s cuisine paired with some of the finest wines from the region. Gordon Ramsay will indisputably bring Le Pressoir d’Argent at the forefront of France’s gastronomic destinations and we are thrilled to work with him!’
