The International Hotel Management (IHM) program enables Stamford students to have guidance and hands-on experience from hospitality industry leaders both in Thailand and overseas. Students can practice and apply theories learnt in class and get involved in real hotel operations such as catering, front desk, rooms division and business administration. In 2014, over 100 of Stamford’s International Hotel Management students experienced internships at 27 five-star and boutique hotels in Japan, Maldives, Mauritius, Hong Kong, Bhutan, and Thailand.

In addition to experience gained during the internship, students also receive an allowance for their work on a monthly/hourly basis. Many Stamford students excel as interns and their outstanding achievements and professionalism garner valuable recognition from respected employers. As well as overseas opportunities, many Thai and international students in the International Hotel Management program choose to complete their internships in Bangkok.

One such student is Piyachat Sumamal, who has been working at Crown Plaza Hotel Silom with the aim of becoming a restaurant manager following graduation. She is enthusiastic about the experience and reports: “The internship is excellent because I have an opportunity to use skills learned at Stamford and apply them to the real-life work environment more easily when compared to students from other universities. In the future, when I want to apply for a job, the experience I gain from the internship is an essential component of my resume, and so has prepared me for my future career.”

International student Daria Salomatova is enjoying a productive and successful internship with Plaza Athenee Bangkok, a Royal Meridien hotel. She says, “Firstly, it offers a real understanding for the subject you study and how suited you will be to that job in the future. Secondly, it is a ‘real life’ experience with real problems and situations you must overcome; thirdly, it’s a good way to practice the theory from classes. I like IHM at Stamford because of the teachers - they are real professionals from the industry with their own stories and their own top level experience, which has helped me a lot in terms of my career development.”

Over the last year, Stamford’s IHM students gained valuable job-ready skills and experience at the following participating world-class International hotels:
