Opened at the end of 2012, the new four-star Maritim Hotel is tucked away on the East Coast of Mauritius in the attractive setting of Palmar, behind a half-mile of white sandy beach. The hotel is approximately 45 minutes’ drive from both the airport and capital of Port Louis. Its architecture and interior were inspired by the sugarcane plant, the star of the country’s economy for some 250 years. In mid-May 2014, Maritim began a soft takeover, conducting training sessions in order to meet Maritim’s high standards and prepare for the new identification with the brand.
The property’s 181 modern rooms, all facing the sea, are divided into four categories: Comfort, Superior, Deluxe Family and Junior Suite. All rooms are exceptionally large (between 50 and 95 square metres) and equipped with a shower area, a bath, a separate WC, a hair-dryer, air conditioning, an IPTV system, a television, Internet access, a safe, a minibar and tea-/coffee-making facilities.
The hotel features a wonderful choice of restaurants, offering a variety of cuisine, ranging from two intimate à la carte restaurants to the main restaurant with its lavish buffets and a laid-back beach cafe. Two bars, one of which is located directly on the beach, entice guests to kick back and relax.
Be it sports or relaxation, there is something for everyone in a comprehensive recreational infrastructure that includes a swimming pool area with whirlpool and toddler provisions, beach volleyball, table tennis, aqua gymnastics, boccia (similar to pétanque), a fitness centre and equipment for a wide range of water sports. There is also a professional “Ti Dodo” Kid’s Club for children aged between 3 and 12. Further water sports facilities include a diving school, a kite surfing school and a boat-house.
Events for up to 200 people can be held in an air-conditioned conference room offering a space of 390 square metres. Likewise, a 33-square-metre boardroom is ideal for exclusive meetings for up to 16 participants.
Maritim has been represented by another five-star Maritim Resort & Spa, near Port Louis in the north-west of the island, since 1991. A few years ago, this hotel underwent extensive renovations and it has already been designated “Top Hotel” several times. It looks out over “TurtleBay” and has one of the largest wellness centres on the island, the “Tropical Flower Spa”, as well as a 25-hectare tropical garden with its own 9-hole golf course (par 29).
