Of particular note, the Group’s flagship property Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, achieved quadruple Five Star ratings across all three categories for its hotel, spa and two of its Michelin-starred restaurants, Pierre and the Mandarin Grill. It is one of only three hotels worldwide to receive this honour.
The Group’s second Hong Kong property, The Landmark Mandarin Oriental also achieved Five Stars for its hotel, spa and two Michelin-starred restaurant Amber. It joins Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas and Mandarin Oriental, Miami, as three of only nine hotels worldwide to hold this prestigious honour, the most of any other hotel group. In addition the Group’s hotels are the only ones in Miami and Las Vegas to be so awarded.
The Group’s newest hotel, Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai which has been open for less than a year, was honoured for the first time with the Forbes Five Star award in the hotel category, and was one of only four hotels in the city to be so awarded.
Nine of the Group’s hotels achieved Five Star distinction in both the hotel and spa categories; Mandarin Oriental, Boston, Mandarin Oriental, New York, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, Mandarin Oriental, Singapore and The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, Mandarin Oriental, Miami, Mandarin Oriental, Macau and were joined by new award-winner Mandarin Oriental, San Francisco.
Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London and Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. achieved Four Star hotel status.
In addition, out of 41 Forbes Five Star Spas, ten are Spas at Mandarin Oriental, more than any other hotel company. The list includes the Spas at Mandarin Oriental located in Boston, Las Vegas, Miami and New York, together with Singapore, Macau and both hotels in Hong Kong. Two new additions to this year’s honours list are the spas in San Francisco and London. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. achieved Four Star spa status.
In continued recognition of the Group’s commitment to dining excellence, Twist by Pierre Gagnaire at Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, Azul at Mandarin Oriental, Miami, Pierre and Mandarin Grill at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong and Amber at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental achieved the Five Star award.
Five restaurants were also awarded a Four Star mark of excellence which include: Asiate at Mandarin Oriental, New York, CityZen at Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C., Asana at Mandarin Oriental, Boston, and two new additions -- Man Wah at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong and Vida Rica at Mandarin Oriental, Macau.

According to Forbes, standards for Forbes Five Star Award certifications are exact, and few properties meet them. Within the industry, these awards are highly coveted and highly respected. In 2014, only 97 hotels achieved Forbes Five Star Award status, 48 restaurants and 41 spas have achieved the Forbes Five Star Award.
Forbes Travel Guide’s (formerly Mobil Travel Guide) Star Awards ratings process is based on more than 500 standardized criteria for hotels, restaurants and spas worldwide, making it the most rigorous and comprehensive in the industry. To achieve Forbes Travel Guide Four and Five Star status, properties must meet or exceed the bar-setting service standards, which are determined through an unannounced, undercover service evaluation conducted by Forbes Travel Guide’s expert inspectors.
