Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants will recognise the region’s gastronomic diversity and quality, in line with growing global awareness and culinary trends. Organised by William Reed Business Media, the same people behind the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, the awards represent an annual review and convergence of opinion from restaurant industry experts. It is recognised globally as the most trusted arbiter and authority on global dining.

Drawing inspiration from the worldwide interest in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants will provide a credible and trusted list that is dedicated to the restaurant industry in Latin America and voted for by peers and luminaries from the culinary profession within region.

William Drew, spokesperson for William Reed Business Media, said of the new list:

“Following the success of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, our first regional list and awards in Singapore in February this year, we are excited to announce the date of the first list and awards ceremony for Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants.

“This launch champions the significant development and growth of the gastronomic industry across Latin America and provides diners across the globe with local insight and recommendations into this diverse and developing culinary region.

“Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants will celebrate the gastronomic delights of the continent. We have no doubt that the list will be a must-reference guide for the increasing number of loyal international followers of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants programme.”

Julian Coulter, Vice President of Cervecerías Peruanas Backus, SABMILLER Peru:

“Cusqueña is delighted to be lead sponsor of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants. The 50 Best Restaurants speak to sheer excellence in its craft and the pursuit of success, values that are consistent with the essence of Cusqueña. Cusqueña’s fine range of premium beers offer a perfect accompaniment to this culinary expertise and we are therefore extremely proud of our association with Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants.

Claudia Cornejo, Vice Minister of Tourism of Peru, said:

“It is an honour and a great privilege for Peru to host the first edition of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants. Our biodiversity makes our region rich in produce and flavour, and we’ll be delighted to help you discover it”.

How Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants List is compiled:

Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants (and the event hosted to celebrate its inaugural unveiling) is organised and compiled by Restaurant magazine, part of William Reed Business Media. None of the employees of any of the sponsors associated with the awards, including the main sponsor, votes or has any influence over the results.

The list is created from Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants Academy, an influential group of over 250 leaders in the restaurant industry across Latin America, each selected for their expert opinion of Latin America’s restaurant scene.

The Academy is divided into four separate regions: Mexico & Central America, South America (North), South America (South), and Brazil. The divisions are designed to represent the Latin American restaurant scene as fairly as possible at the current time.

Each region has its own panel of 63 members including a chairperson to head it up. The panel is made up of food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and highly regarded 'foodies'. Each panellist has seven votes. Of the seven votes, at least three must be used to recognise restaurants outside of their home country.
