IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), the world’s largest international hotel company, was again awarded the “International Hospitality Excellence Award 2013” at the China Hotel Investment Conference (CHIC). The award acknowledges IHG as an exceptional organisation that is committed to the advancement of the hospitality industry globally and to consistently delivering best practices and excellence in service standards in China.
CHIC, organised by leading global hotel consulting firm HVS, is one of the most influential annual hotel investment conferences in China. The CHIC Awards celebrate hotel development, best practices, industry talent and contributions to the growth of the industry in China. Senior industry executives across the region, together with the CHIC Advisory Board, comprising key members from the hospitality industry, and the Organising Committee, are involved in the nomination and selection process of the award’s recipients.
In 2012, IHG achieved excellent performance in Greater China. Operating profits in the region increased by 21%, driven by new hotel openings and RevPAR (Revenue per available room) growth of 5.4%, significantly outperforming the industry.
Brands under IHG also achieved several significant milestones in Greater China. The first upscale international hotel brand specifically designed for Chinese consumers, HUALUXE™ Hotels & Resorts, was successfully launched in China in 2012. With 15 management contracts signed today, the brand has gained recognition and appreciation among developers. Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts opened its 60th hotel in Greater China and has continued its leadership as the largest upscale international brand in the region. Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts celebrated its 60th anniversary worldwide with the opening of its 60th Holiday Inn hotel in Greater China. As the No. 1 hotel brand and the most widely-recognised international hotel brand in China, Holiday Inn currently has 64 hotels opened and 37 more in the development pipeline in Greater China. IHG is currently the largest employer in China’s hotel industry with 60,000 employees and is committed to developing local talents by running “IHG Academy” in partnership with reputable academic institutions across China. As of today, 25 IHG academies have been set up in nearly 20 Chinese cities, producing over 5000 graduates to the industry every year.
“We are thrilled to earn the recognition of the industry and our guests by being honored with this award again, after receiving it in 2011,” said Keith Barr, Chief Executive Officer, IHG Greater China, “This year marks IHG’s 30th year of operation in China and this award is a celebration of our long-term commitment to the China market. It’s very gratifying to see our efforts are standing out in the industry. We will continuously deliver consistent and the best services to our guests across all brands in China.”
