Adare Manor, the exquisite château-like property located near Limerick and Shannon International Airport, has announced that the historic resort has been named the “World’s Leading Boutique Golf Resort” in the annual World Travel Awards. Earlier this year it was announced that Adare Manor was named “Ireland’s Leading Hotel” in the World Travel Awards regional competition, which preceded the global award.

“It is a high honor for us at Adare Manor to be named the World’s Leading Boutique Golf Resort -- the only Irish property to have ever won this global award,” said Anita Higgins, general manager. “Since our establishment as a resort in the 1980s, when the manor house was converted into a five star hotel, we’ve striven to be the very best in all that we do – the best in Ireland, the best in Europe and the best globally. To have this recognized in this way is extremely rewarding to all of us at Adare Manor.”

The exquisite five-star, Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort is set in a 19th century Gothic manor house surrounded by manicured lawns, exquisite walled and formal gardens, and acres of original parklands. Just beyond Adare Manor’s gates is Adare Village, considered one of Ireland’s most charming and photogenic villages with its storied thatched-roof houses.

One of Ireland’s top golf destinations, Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort features an 18-hole championship course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., that has gained international acclaim as one of the renowned golf course architect’s finest creations. The course, which measures 7,453 yards from the championship tees, is a majestic design with rock-walled streams, subtle undulating putting surfaces with the Jones signature cloverleaf bunkers. A 14-acre lake dominates the front nine holes while the back nine are routed through wooded land. Adding beauty to all of this, the River Maigue meanders through the course creating a sense of beauty and challenge.

Central to Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort is the extraordinary manor house, which is a “Calendar House” featuring 365 stained glass windows, 52 chimneys, 7 pillars in the lobby for each day of the week and 4 towers for each season. Built for the second Earl of Dunraven in the early 1800s, the family staterooms are now sumptuous guest suites that have hosted Presidents, European Royalty, entertainers and celebrities, as well as discerning travellers from around the world. The manor house’ exquisitely-carved oak dining room, where the original Dunraven family dined, seats hotel guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Adare Manor’s magnificent Minstrel’s Gallery - a 132 foot long, 26-½ foot high expanse inspired by the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles - hosts spectacular social and corporate gatherings. .

The World Travel Awards, described by The Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars of travel and tourism,” were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the travel and tourism industry. Today, the WTA brand is recognized globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire. The votes for World Travel Award recipients come from nearly 800,000 travel & tourism executives and consumer travellers in 171 countries. Awards are presented across three tiers: country, regional and finally the world awards. In 2013, WTA will celebrate its historic 20th anniversary year.
