Gidleigh Park is delighted to announce that it has been named Best Restaurant in the South West in The Sunday Times Food List, coming in second overall in this year’s top 100.

Headed up by Two Michelin Starred Chef, Michael Caines MBE, Gidleigh Park is the only restaurant in the history of the list to have been in the top three overall since it began – an extraordinary achievement.

As well as Best Restaurant and second overall, Gidleigh Park has also been awarded first place for the Best Wine List and second for Best Service and Best Places to Stay.

Critically acclaimed Executive Head Chef Michael Caines MBE has been at the helm of the kitchen at Gidleigh Park since 1994, where he and his dedicated team of professionals strive to create the dishes which have earned him his Two Michelin Stars. Serving distinctive modern European cuisine using the finest local and regional produce, the restaurant at Gidleigh Park is considered one of the finest restaurants in the UK with Michael helping to secure the restaurant a glimmering, global reputation.

Michael Caines MBE says ‘We are thrilled to have been named the best restaurant for food in the South West in this year’s The Sunday Times Food List, and even more so to have come second overall in the Top 100. In the three years the list has been running we are delighted to have featured within the top three which is a true testament to the team and all the hard work they put in to constantly deliver a high level of service. We pride ourselves on creating a memorable experience and it’s great to be so highly acknowledged by the people who eat there.

Karen Robinson, Editor of The Sunday Times Food List, says ‘The Sunday Times Food List is the ultimate taste test. It represents the views of the food-loving public rather than a clique of food critics or anonymous restaurant inspectors telling us where to go and spend our money.’

The Sunday Times Food List ranks Britain's top 100 restaurants strictly by the quality of their food, and is compiled from marks and comments from real customers. This year’s list has been compiled from over 75,000 individual reports.

Now in its third year, The Sunday Times Food List is compiled in collaboration with Harden's, whose own restaurant guides base their ratings on the views of diners who eat out regularly. The Sunday Times Food List rankings are based on the food the restaurant serves, though the ratings for ambience are used in the event of a tie.

Set on the peaceful banks of the North Teign River at the edge of Dartmoor National Park, Gidleigh Park Hotel Relais & Châteaux is a Tudor style country house hotel famed for its impeccable culinary credentials and its 107 acres of private gardens and woodland.
