Shanti Maurice is delighted to announce its first South African Food Festival to take place from 22-24 September, 2012 with guest Chef Garth Stroebel, winner of the Lannice Snyman Lifetime Achievement Award for 2011.
To open the festival and celebrate the food, wine and culture of neighbouring South Africa, there will be stalls showcasing South African products from suckling pig on the spit, to biltong and pies, while artists, drummers, raffles and games will take place creating a market atmosphere. Other highlights during the celebrations include Garden tour with chef Willibald followed by a wine tasting in the garden, gourmet dinners and live cooking demonstrations and finale gala dinner at the Fish and Rhum shack on the beach.
The festival marks the appearance of Guest Chef Garth Stroebel – past Executive Chef for the African Collection of Orient-Express Hotels – who is at the forefront of culinary innovation combining South Africa’s culinary heritage and traditions with exotic flavours of the modern world. In addition to winning the Lannice Snyman Lifetime Achievement Award in 201l, Chef Stroebel was presented with the prestigious Pinnacle Chef Award, for a lifetime achievement in the fields of training and culinary expertise. Among his other achievements, he is author of the book Modern South African Cuisine (2005) and resides as a Judge for the World Association of Chefs Societies.
