This is a press release selected by our editorial committee and published online for free on 2012-06-11

Design Hotels’ annual members’ conference arena* is here again from June 20-22 in Berlin. Like each year, the three-day event is designed to offer hoteliers an eye-opening insight into the dynamics of our world today, what will impact the industry and which tools and knowledge they need to stay ahead of the game. Trend-mappers and sustainability experts will join Design Hotels™ CEO Claus Sendlinger and other senior staff in delving into these increasingly important topics. The event is also a platform for hoteliers to exchange ideas and learn from one another. A highlight, the open-to-public trend briefing by The Future Laboratory on June 22, titled “Innovate or be Damned”, will voice the upcoming trends that count and the ideas, insights and innovations that will shape the years to come.

Headlining the all-day session on June 21 is keynote speaker Alan Moore, author of the book No Straight Lines and Head of Vision to GrowVC, the world's first community-funded venture fund, and visiting lecturer at the business faculties of Oxford and Cambridge universities. The charismatic visionary will address how we can create better societies, abler organizations and, more vibrant and equitable economies.

Enlightening members on a sound and successful sustainable community plan for hotels will be Ross Harding of the global grassroots initiative Finding Infinity that promotes the use of renewable energy sources. He will be joined by Paul Salmon, restaurateur and hotelier, who created the Rockhouse Foundation, a far-reaching program to aid the poverty-stricken area of Negril, Jamaica. Earlier this year, Harding and his team of green heroes hit the road in Mexico to educate people on the streets about being ecologically conscious. They also launched Design Hotels initiative with EC3 Global’s EarthCheck program in the region by assessing member hotels’ green efficiency levels and providing solutions for more sustainable operation.

The Program

Kicking-off arena* on the evening of June 20 is an invite-only event at the Andreas Murkudis Concept Store for member hotels, travel industry pros and Berlin's creative scene. On June 21 Delphi Film Palast, a historic 1920s film theater in Charlottenburg, will be the setting for a range of thought-provoking presentations. They will be hosted by Guy Dittrich, journalist, and hospitality, design and travel expert. Topics will range from the blueprint of today’s customers to the evolution of the digital marketplace.

Calling all trend-enthusiasts to see the face of the future

On June 22, Martin Raymond and Chris Sanderson, founders of The Future Laboratory, an internationally-recognized forecasting, consumer insight and brand strategy company based in London, will give a comprehensive briefing on emerging markets, consumer behavior and forthcoming trends. This trend briefing with the theme “Innovate or be Damned” will be held at the Delphi Filmpalast, Charlottenburg from 9:30 – 1:00pm and is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at a price of EUR 49.
