Working Mother magazine has named Hilton Worldwide one of the “Best Companies for Hourly Workers” in 2012, which awards those employers that have the best policies and programs for promoting women and a dynamic work life culture. Hilton Worldwide is one of only 12 companies that made the list, including Best Buy, Capital One and Target.

The survey, conducted by the Working Mother Research Institute, found that women at the winning companies earned 56% of all promotions from hourly non-manager to non-exempt manager positions at the winning companies. One hundred percent of the winners offered their hourly workers personal and family health insurance benefits.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by Working Mother,” said Matt Schuyler, chief human resources officer, Hilton Worldwide. “We are proud of our commitment to encouraging a dynamic work life culture for women and strongly believe in creating as many opportunities as possible for our diverse workforce.”

Jennifer Owens, editorial director of Working Mother Media, said, “This year’s Best Companies exemplify best-practices workplaces and cultures to help female hourly workers thrive. Most of the companies use the 70-20-10 rule: Focus 70% of your time on getting on-the-job experience, 20% on developing internal relationships and networks and 10% on formal training.”

Patricia Brusven, event manager, Hilton Minneapolis, says, “I was an hourly worker that started in the front office, and with our mentorship program, I was able to gather the additional tools that were needed to succeed as an event manager. There is always someone to go to for help and guidance. During my past five years at the Hilton Minneapolis, I have not only been successful at climbing the career ladder to being a manager, but I have also grown as a person.”
