• Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Borrego, presents the award during the "Spanish Night" organized by Turespaña
The Chairman of Meliá Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, yesterday received the "Outstanding contribution to German-Spanish relations" award during the presentation of the Spain Tourism awards on the “Spanish Night” organised by the Tourist Board. The Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Borrego, presented the award to Escarrer in recognition of all of his work done to strengthen business relations between the two countries.
Escarrer thanked all the team at Meliá Hotels International and also highlighted “the appreciation and loyalty of the German market for our hotels both in Spain and elsewhere in the world, as Germany is the second most important market for Meliá Hotels International, with more than 300,000 guests every year”.
These awards form part of the ITB tourism trade fair in Berlin during which the Spanish Tourism Board aims to distinguish the tour operators and travel agencies that offer a broader and more diversified image of Spain and offer vacation experiences adapted to the needs of German travellers.
Meliá Hotels International is the leading hotel company in Spain and the biggest Spanish hotel company in Germany, where it operates 24 hotels in cities such as Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich, Frankfurt and Dresden, amongst others. Germany is considered a strategic market for growth for the company, both for its domestic market and for its role as a feeder market for Spain and the rest of the world. This is why it has become the first European "hub" for the company from which it expects to continue growing exponentially in the coming years.
