Welcome to the neighborhood Design Hotels™ book edition 2012 on stands now (Germany)

Category: Europe - Germany
This is a press release selected by our editorial committee and published online for free on 2012-02-08

This year’s annual edition of The Design Hotels™ Book comes with 220 unique and inspiring hotels worldwide featuring 21 new member hotels and including new destinations like Sydney, Bogotá, Portobelo and Nairobi. In a world where the shift of rural to urban is changing the way we live and interact, it is the neighborhood that adds color, flavor and that much-needed personal connection. With the new book, readers can explore the gateways to some of the most creative neighborhoods around the world – Design Hotels™’ member properties. Whether it’s the little street of old-time weavers or an area where a new generation of “urban artists” express themselves on walls, furniture and whatever else they can find, each locality is unique and each one tells a special story of where you are. www.designhotels.com/specials/book_2012

“A hotel should be much more than a beacon of creativity and hospitality. It should be a member of the community. At times it’s a valued partner standing alongside other businesses in a local scene. But it can also be a leading figure, helping a neighborhood transform itself as it takes on an exciting new shape and purpose,” says Design Hotels™ Founder and CEO Claus Sendlinger. The member properties do this by offering guests a slice of local experiences that are topical. They are meeting places for creative folks and individuals looking for like-minded company. Their staff is absorbed into the fabric of the neighborhood, so much so, that it’s like visiting a cool friend in an unknown city.

In the new additions to the Design Hotels™ family, take Hotel Matilda in Mexico for example – the sharp, style-conscious hideout is bringing San Miguel de Allende’s historic cobbled streets to the future, both with its design and contemporary Mexican art inside. In another part of the world, Tribe Hotel in Kenya surrounds guests with an unrivaled collection of African artifacts and crafts from where to explore this diverse and rich part of the continent. In the heart of Paris’ golden fashion triangle lies La Maison Champs Élysées. With its subtle and theatrical décor, it is the first hotel interior created by the fashion brand Maison Martin Margiela.

Further afield, Kimamaya Boutique Hotel on the Japanese island of Hokkaido offers guests an intimate sanctuary with a handful of rooms and a spiritually lasting experience. In the renowned wine region of Southern Styria known as the “Tuscany of Austria,” LOISIUM Wine & Spa Resort Südsteiermark will concentrate on the local. Its architecture combines coarsely cut materials from the region with glass for fabulous views and the LOISIUM Vinothek encompasses an educational vineyard and showcases Styria’s most interesting wines.

So go on, flip through the pages and choose not just hotels to stay but places to be.
