Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ efforts in supporting Egyptian tourism and in the ‘green initiatives’ of sustainability have been recognised in three prestigious awards by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism.

The awards were announced recently during the Tourism Recognition Day 2011 held by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism at Cairo International Conference Centre. Mövenpick Resort Aswan and Mövenpick MS Royal Lily won the tribute for enriching the tourism industry in Egypt in 2011 while Mövenpick Resort Taba received the ‘Sustainability Award 2011”.

Mövenpick Resort Taba, which enjoys stunning views over the Red Sea, confirmed its leading position in Egyptian tourism for environmental awareness with the ‘Sustainability Award 2011’ adding to a string of achievements in recent years including the Green Globe certification.

Osama Abaza, General Manager Mövenpick Resort Taba, said: “Our hotel is leading many initiatives and best practices such as searching for alternative green energy, water preservation, waste management, the welfare of our employees and positive interaction with surrounding society. All of these initiatives had a positive impact on our property and its reputation in the eyes of our guests and our employees alike.”

Mövenpick Resort Aswan has been recognized for its efforts in supporting the tourism industry in Aswan in Egypt's most beautiful and scenic tourist destination. The resort is nestled on its own Arcadian island in the middle of the Nile where the pharaohs unfolded Aswan's therapeutic powers.

The resort currently offers 230 Nubian designed rooms. A new extension is currently underway to bring an additional 177 rooms to this Nubian haven by the end of 2012.

For the second time Mövenpick Nile Cruisers are crowned one of the best cruises on the River Nile. Mövenpick MS Royal Lotus received the prestigious award by the Ministry of Tourism in 2006 and Mövenpick MS Royal Lily received the same award for 2011.

"We are very proud to have received this award and especially that it is a second for Mövenpick Nile Cruisers which is a reward for the team on board who have strived to provide exemplary service this past year” said Mohamed Farouk, boat manager, Mövenpick MS Royal Lily.

Roger Kacou senior vice president Africa of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, said: “These awards are much appreciated and are especially rewarding for the hotels and Nile cruise teams who have worked tirelessly in what has been a challenging year for Egypt’s tourism”. He added Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts are committed to Egypt and have some exciting new projects to announce this year, kicked off by the recent announcement of a new management contract for a 300 room hotel in Sharm El Sheikh.
