Multi-Million Dollar Refurbishment Enhances Urban Oasis with Classically Modern Style and latest Technology

The Fairmont Washington, D.C. is thrilled to announce that the 415-room luxury hotel has completed the refurbishment of 24,000 square-feet of its renowned function space. The announcement was made by Regional Vice President and General Manager Mark S. Andrew. The project encompassed the hotel’s ballroom level meeting and pre-function space, the mezzanine level and the third floor meeting space. The 2.6 million dollar refurbishment designed to be comfortably modern aesthetically and technologically, was completed on January 20 2012.

Maintaining Fairmont’s commitment to the environment, the ‘Green Label’ approved carpeting throughout incorporates beautiful blossoms and vines with a modern twist, as does the low volatile organic compounds wall coverings and paints. The soft goods and finishes are inspired by the serene courtyard garden and surrounding outdoor spaces.
All meeting space now provides the latest in technology including strategically placed internet docking and charging stations. Third floor executive boardrooms are programmed with wireless touch panels, overhead microphones and rack-mounted equipment to support audio amplifiers, Blu-Ray players and audio signal processors.

“By updating and polishing our expansive function space with modern style and technology, we have enhanced the guest experience in our unique urban oasis within the nation’s capital,” states Mr. Andrew. “It just keeps getting better.”
The ballroom’s pre-function space boasts a feature wall that reflects light and texture while depicting the cherry blossoms, found in the hotel’s courtyard and through out the nation’s capital. The 5,460 square-foot ballroom is an exquisite setting for weddings, galas and all special occasions for groups of 30 to 700 people. The chandeliers have been enhanced with sparkling crystal beads that are reflected in the beveled glass mirrors; and the subtle wall coverings have been lifted to a modern mix with traditional feel.

Designer Christina Hart, Partner at New York-based BBG-BBGM, notes, “Our philosophy of design was to incorporate a sense of place with a twist. The palette takes on a mix of rich gold coupled with the freshness of white trim and mixed with the silvers of water and the highlights of soft green all reflective of the hotels serene courtyard garden.”

Black and white artwork is featured throughout the space, making an authentically local statement. Each image depicts an interesting place in DC that is not well-known, yet will be labeled with information on how to discover the place within our city.

The almost 4,000 square-foot Colonnade, DC’s favorite place to hold gala events, remained open and active during the refurbishment. Festive celebrations and events continue to be a way of life at The Fairmont Washington, D.C.

Located at 2401 M Street, NW, The Fairmont Washington, D.C. is convenient to the finest museums, theaters (including the Kennedy Center), shopping and dining. Close to two metro stations, it is five miles from Reagan National Airport and 33 miles from Dulles International Airport. At 415 rooms and luxury suites, The Fairmont Washington, D.C. offers a wealth of facilities while maintaining an air of tranquility insured through the design of intimate spaces, plenty of natural daylight, and a cascade of plants both inside and out.
