Low-Calorie Indulgence
‘Tis the season for home cooked meals, canapés and cocktails! But for those watching their waistlines, the festive season can be downright scary. With the typical dessert weighing in at more than 350 calories, it’s no wonder the calorie-conscious skip the sweets when eating out during the holidays.
Alas, guests at Verandah at Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas no longer have to deny themselves. Thanks to Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Luc Daul, they can still indulge in gooey chocolate cupcakes (frosting too!), creamy peppermint and chocolate chip cheesecake, nutty carrot cake bars and light-as-air angel food cupcakes. Pick your favourite or throw caution to the wind and have two – each yummy confection is 100 calories or less! Beginning December 1, these low-calorie desserts will join Verandah’s selection of dessert tapas presented to guests following lunch.
Creating low-calorie versions of decadent desserts without altering flavour or texture is no easy feat! Like a magician, the amazing Chef Daul made calories in some recipes disappear by forgoing high-calorie ingredients such as egg yolks, using butter alternatives or substituting agave nectar for sugar. Yet another thing to give thanks for this holiday season.
