2.6 Million Dollar Refurbishment to Enhance Elegant Urban Oasis with Modern Style and Technology

The Fairmont Washington, D.C. is excited to announce that the 415-room luxury hotel will refurbish 24,000 square-feet of its function space beginning November 21, 2011. The announcement was made by Regional Vice President and General Manager Mark S. Andrew. The project will encompass the hotel’s ballroom level meeting and pre-function space, the mezzanine level and the third floor meeting space. The 2.6 million dollar refurbishment is expected to be completed by the end of January 2012.

The new design will be comfortably modern both aesthetically and technologically. Maintaining Fairmont’s commitment to the environment, the ‘Green Label’ approved carpeting throughout will incorporate beautiful blossoms and vines with a modern twist, as will the low volatile organic compounds wall coverings and paints. The soft goods and finishes are inspired by the serene courtyard garden and surrounding outdoor spaces.
All meeting space will provide the latest in technology such as strategically placed internet docking and charging stations. Third floor executive boardrooms will be programmed with wireless touch panels, overhead microphones and rack-mounted equipment to support audio amplifiers, Blu-Ray players and audio signal processors.

“By updating our function space with modern style and technology, we will continue to enhance the guest experience in our unique urban oasis within the nation’s capital,” said Mr. Andrew. “It just keeps getting better.”
The ballroom’s pre-function space will boast a feature wall that reflects light and texture while depicting the cherry blossoms, found in the hotel’s courtyard and through out the nation’s capital. The 5,460 square-foot ballroom will become an exquisite setting for weddings, galas and all special occasions for groups of 30 to 700 people. The chandeliers will be enhanced with sparkling crystal beads and the wall coverings will be lifted to a modern mix with traditional feel.

The Designer, Christina Hart, Partner at New York-based BBG-BBGM notes, “Our philosophy of design is to incorporate a sense of place with a twist. The palette will take on a mix of rich gold coupled with the freshness of white trim and mixed with the silvers of water and the highlights of soft green all reflective of the hotels serene courtyard garden.”
Black and white artwork will be featured throughout the space, making an authentically local statement. Each image will depict an interesting place in DC that is not well-known, yet will be labeled with information on how to discover the place in our city.
The almost 4,000 square-foot Colonnade, DC’s favorite place to hold gala events, remains open and active during the refurbishment. So… celebrations continue to be a way of life at The Fairmont Washington, D.C.
