Banyan Tree moves into the second quarter of 2011 with new awards under its belt, bringing its total tally to 685 awards, since it first started 17 years ago. Positive votes from the readers of Condé Nast Traveller, DestinAsian, TTG China and I-S Magazine Singapore, contributed to the Group’s awards haul. With the endorsement of its guests and readers from these prestigious publications, Banyan Tree is well poised to embark on its aggressive phase of expansion, which will see five more properties opening this year, starting with Banyan Tree Macau on 15 May.

THE READERS’ CHOICE
In Condé Nast Traveller UK Readers' Spa Awards 2011, Banyan Tree Spa Seychelles was ranked 7th in the Hotel Spa category in Africa, Middle East & the Indian Ocean, while Banyan Tree Spa Phuket was ranked 3rd in the Asia and the Indian Subcontinent region, and ranked 12th amongst the top 25 spas overall. In DestinAsian’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2011, the readers of the leading regional travel publication voted Banyan Tree Phuket as Best Hotel in Phuket, Banyan Tree Bangkok as Best Hotel in Bangkok and Banyan Tree Spa Bangkok as Best Spas–City. Readers of I-S Magazine in Singapore also voted Banyan Tree as Best Resort Chain in their Readers’ Choice Awards 2011.

In China, Banyan Tree Lijiang, was awarded Best Spa Resort in China Travel Awards 2011 – a third consecutive win for the property in this award category. Other Banyan Tree resorts in China also received accolades, including Banyan Tree Sanya as Best Luxurious Hotel in the 6th China Hotel Starlight Awards 2010 - the “Oscar equivalent of the China Hospitality industry”. In the same award, Banyan Tree Hangzhou won Top 10 Glamorous Hotels of China, newcomer Angsana Fuxian Lake, Top 10 New Hotels of China and Banyan Tree Spa as Best Spa Operator for the third consecutive year. In addition, Banyan Tree Spa was named the Best Spa Brand for the fifth consecutive year by the prestigious Hurun Report China – Best of The Best Awards 2011. At the Travel & Leisure Travel Awards 2010, Banyan Tree Spa Shanghai garnered Best Spa while Angsana Spa Hotel Nikko Shanghai won Best New Spa.

These awards and accolades are a validation of Banyan Tree’s growing success in China, and place the Group in prime position for its aggressive expansion in China, which will see another 13 new properties opening from now to 2013. In addition to Banyan Tree Macau, the Group is slated to open Banyan Tree Riverside, Shanghai, Banyan Tree Tianjin and Angsana Hangzhou, in China later this year.
