IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), (LON:IHG) (NYSE:IHG) (ADRs), the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms, and whose roots in Venezuela can be traced to the early 1950’s, today announced the opening of the InterContinental Maracaibo. It will be IHG’s 21st InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property in Latin America and the Caribbean (19 open and two under construction).
“We are truly pleased to open a second property in Maracaibo,” says Jim Anhut, Chief Development Officer, IHG, Americas. “This property complements the Crowne Plaza Maruma, which is also in Maracaibo, affording us the opportunity to showcase two of our brands within this key business center.”
The 252-room InterContinental Maracaibo has picturesque views of Venezuela’s famed Lake Maracaibo, and is located near the city’s newest commercial and residential districts, within walking distance of business centers, banks, corporate offices, shopping, recreation and more. The property is also 20 minutes from the city’s International Airport.
The InterContinental Maracaibo’s amenities include a Presidential Suite, a Club InterContinental Lounge, a 24-hour fitness center with sauna and outdoor pool, a lobby and terrace bar, and a gourmet restaurant. Under the direction of Chef Rogelio Garcìa, Portobello Ristorante serves Italian fusion cuisine with a Mediterranean flair. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant is located on the lobby level and offers an inviting, modern atmosphere.
Featuring an eclectic style, the InterContinental Maracaibo graciously blends contemporary design with classic elegance. An ideal setting for meetings, the property boasts 14,500 square feet of meetings and conference space throughout 10 high-tech meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 50 people, and two grand ballrooms, which accommodate up to 700 guests. The building also includes 300 self-contained parking spaces.
Maracaibo, the country’s second-largest city after Caracas with two million residents, is crucial to Venezuela’s petroleum industry. Much of the country’s crude oil and refiner products come mainly from Maracaibo.
“The InterContinental brand is iconic in Latin America,” adds Alvaro Diago, COO, IHG, Latin America and Caribbean. “The opening of this property furthers the brand presence in the region, as well as our ongoing strategy for growth.”
The hotel, owned by Venezuela-based Promociones Hoteleras S.A., will be managed by IHG’s Americas operations division.
As the world’s first truly global hotel brand, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, established in 1946 in Brazil, has had a continuous presence in Latin America. There has been no brand in the region with more international appeal. InterContinental Hotels & Resorts strives to provide its guests with an experience that is unique to each destination and prides itself on maintaining uncompromised global standards and respect for the heritage of the communities each hotel calls home.
IHG has nearly 190 hotels in Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean, and has been serving Latin America for 64 years. IHG has hotels situated in nearly every key market throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
