Phill Burgess and Rod Dornbusch Join as Vice Presidents
John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts (www.jqhhotels.com) today announced the addition of two vice presidents to the company’s corporate executive team in its Springfield, Mo.-based headquarters. The nation’s leading independent builder, developer, owner and manager of upscale, full-service hotels, resorts and suites has hired Phill Burgess, CHA, as vice president of sales and revenue management and Rod Dornbusch as vice president of capital planning and asset management.
“Phill and Rod are collaborative innovators with proven track records for delivering optimum results,” said Jacquie Dowdy, CEO of John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts. “We extend a warm welcome to them as they join the diverse executive team in successfully operating John Q. Hammons’ national portfolio of upscale hotels and premium convention space facilities.”
As vice president of sales and revenue management, Phill Burgess is responsible for establishing and overseeing the 78-hotel portfolio’s marketing strategy, including individual hotel evaluation and promotion through diverse channels. Burgess began his hospitality career as a hotel general manager with Winegardner & Hammons Inc. then with John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts. He served as John Q. Hammons’ first vice president of sales and marketing, setting sales standards and implementing innovative proprietary tools, while contributing to the company’s successful IPO. Burgess’ career also includes a successful online training business and entrepreneurial ventures. For the last 10 years, he served as executive director of CrossBooks Publishing for LifeWay Christian Resources, where he contributed to rejuvenating LifeWay’s conference center operations. He also worked as the first executive director of Holman Bible Outreach International, operating internationally to generate acceptance of a new Mandarin Bible translation.
As vice president of capital planning and asset management, hospitality veteran Rod Dornbusch is responsible for capitalizing on opportunities to fine-tune the company’s upscale hotel and supreme meetings space portfolio that spans 25 states. He oversees capital projects, design, energy conservation/consumption, and facilities management. To ensure John Q. Hammons’ high standards and franchise brand guidelines are met and capital resources maximized, Dornbusch will leverage key learnings from his 16 years with Marriott International as vice president and project director and most recently his five years with Gaylord Entertainment as executive director designing and building the 2,000-room Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
Burgess and Dornbusch will report to Joe Morrissey, senior vice president of operations for John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts.
“Phill and Rod’s unique strengths will complement the executive team as we diligently work together to continue to deliver on the John Q. Hammons commitment of an exceptional guest experience,” Morrissey said.
