Elite Concept’s latest venture is honoured in local Michelin Star Awards

Nanhai No. 1, Hong Kong’s hottest new venue for superb contemporary Chinese dining, has been awarded its first Michelin Star, even though it has been open for just six months.

Located atop Tsim Sha Tsui’s dazzling new retail and entertainment centre, iSQUARE, the sea-themed Nanhai No. 1 offers not only a unique culinary voyage in Asia’s greatest maritime city, but also uninterrupted wraparound views of Hong Kong’s celebrated harbour and skyline from the stunning 30th-floor restaurant and outdoor alfresco deck.

Named after pioneering Chinese naval explorer Zheng He’s 15th-century ‘treasure fleet’, the 200-seat Nanhai No. 1 focuses on the treasures of the South China Sea region. Its daily fresh catch includes premium quality lobster, crab and other seafood delights which are prepared in a variety of culinary styles, from roasted, steamed and sautéed to baked, stir-fried, pan-fried or grilled.

Nanhai No. 1 and Eyebar are the latest inspired gourmet concepts by Elite Concepts, Asia’s pre-eminent restaurant group behind genre-defining venues like yè shanghai and 1949 The Hidden City in Beijing. The restaurant and bar’s sleek interior design is adorned with historical maritime artefacts, such as ancient trading route maps plotting Zheng He’s voyage and a scale model of the original ship.

Elite Concepts’ founder and Executive Director, Paul Hsu is “thrilled” to have been awarded one Michelin Star. “Given Nanhai No. 1 only opened in May, we are delighted to be recognised by Michelin, the most well respected industry title,” he said. “This prestigious award belongs to our whole team who have worked so hard in the past six months to deliver an uncompromising standard of food and service to our guests. Guo Fu Lou, upstairs on level 31 also operated by Elite Concepts, opened in June last year, therefore it was not eligible for consideration for the Michelin guide 2010. However we will endeavour to win Michelin stars for Guo Fu Lou next year.

Nanhai No. 1 and Eyebar are part of Elite Concepts’ ever-growing portfolio of destination restaurants and lounges around Hong Kong and China that are redefining Asian hospitality. Each Elite Concepts restaurant combines a unique location, distinctive concept, tasty food, attentive service and excellent value. Other restaurants include yè shanghai (in Hong Kong and Shanghai), Guo Fu Lou, 1/5 nuevo, cinecittà, in Hong Kong, and 1949 The Hidden City in Beijing. Elite will open a second 1949 concept in Beijing in 2011.
