Carlson, a privately held, global hospitality and travel company, today announced that Simon Barlow has been appointed president of Carlson Hotels, Asia Pacific. Barlow will report to Hubert Joly, Carlson's president and chief executive officer.

In his new role, Barlow will be responsible for leading the growth strategy for Carlson's hotel business in the region and ensure its successful implementation, in support of Carlson's Ambition 2015 strategy.

Barlow has three decades of global hotel operations and development experience, and a wealth of experience in the Asia Pacific region where he has spent more than 20 years. Over the years, he has had a range of growing responsibilities at Accor, Hilton International -- where he was vice president, South East Asia and vice president, Asia from 2000 to 2005, before becoming their president of The Americas -- and more recently at Millennium and Copthorne Hotels, where he was senior vice president, Asia, and chief operating officer for the USA, based in Singapore.

"Simon brings a wealth of hospitality industry and regional experience to this important and fast growing part of our business," said Joly. "His operational, brand, development, and real estate investment experience, combined with his knowledge of the region will be great assets as we continue to build our momentum in the region."

Barlow replaces Jean-Marc Busato who is becoming area vice president, Carlson Hotels, Latin America based in Mexico City.

Carlson currently has 56 hotels in operations in the region and has a development pipeline of over 75 hotels contracted to open in the next three or four years in Bangladesh, China, India, the Maldives, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Thailand. The company recently announced plans to have more than 160 hotels in operations in the region by 2015 across its Radisson®, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson(SM), Park Inn® and Park Plaza® brands.
