Chance for Teddy Bear Lovers to Learn How To Make Their Own Cuddly Toys
As part of its commitment to provide guests with unforgettable experiences, The Park Hotel Kenmare and the British Isle’s renowned teddy bear makers, Julie Tatchell and her able assistant Amanda, will host a teddy bear workshop, October 8 – 10, 2010.
“Making something with your own fair hands is one of life’s greatest pleasures,” said John Brennan, Managing Director, Park Hotel Kenmare, “and the concept for the weekend was born out of a desire to give people permission to relax, unwind, and have a little fun.”
With Christmas almost upon us, here is an opportunity for teddy bear enthusiasts to make their own bear with Julie Tatchell, founder of Bear It In Mind and creator of Bartie Bristle Hotel & Spa, Britain’s first teddy bear hotel. “Teddy bears date back to around 1902,” explained Tatchell, “and teddy bear collecting is the fourth largest collecting hobby in the world. These huggable fellows have stolen our collective hearts and have come to represent everything that is good.”
Arctophiliacs, the term for those drawn to teddy bear collecting, will have a chance to make their own cuddly friend. Aimed at the enthusiastic beginner, although basic sewing skills are necessary, guests will learn to make their very own collectable mohair bear using traditional bear making techniques. Through demonstrations and hands-on instruction, participants will learn how to sew the bear together, stuff it, make the joints, affix eyes and embroider the nose.
Julie Tatchell has received numerous global accolades for her creative and original teddy bear designs. “With Julie and Amanda’s expert advice and incredible creativity, we’re sure everyone will be able to take home a unique bear that will be cherished for years to come,” commented Brennan.
This three-day, two-night experience includes workshops and materials with Julie Tatchell and Amanda. The package includes Superior accommodations, breakfast and dinner each day. Rates are from €495 per person.
