To celebrate the re-opening of a Shanghai icon, the city and Fairmont Peace Hotel have issued limited edition Fairmont Peace Hotel Commemorative Postal Gift Album. These superb collector’s items will be available to be hand-chopped by two Postal Bureau officers in full regalia on the hotel’s opening day – Wednesday, 28 July, 2010.
The officers will be posted at the hotel’s side entrance on Nanjing Road East, in front of Victor’s cafe, from 8am to 2pm. Postal sets are available for purchase from the two nearby Post Offices – the Bund Post Office at 420 Sichuan Zhong Road (operation hours 7am-7pm), and Jinlin Post Office at 71 Jinlin Dong Road(operation hours 7:30am and 6pm) on 28 July. They are priced at RMB5 for a commemorative First Day Cover chopped with the Bund scenery postmark, and RMB100 for the full commemorative set.
After more than three years of meticulous renovations, the Fairmont Peace Hotel reopens its revolving art deco doors on 28 July, almost 81 years to the day since it was first opened by businessman and bon vivant Sir Victor Sassoon. The 270-room Fairmont Peace Hotel’s hallowed halls, restaurants, lounges and guestrooms are imbued with memories of historic occasions and famous guests – and every corner of the hotel is now ready to host a new generation of luxury travellers and exclusive functions and festivities.
So mark you calendar for July 28 – which promises to be a truly special day in Shanghai. And don’t miss the chance to secure your own stamped piece of Peace Hotel memorabilia from China’s grandest and most storied hotel.
