On Saturday, June 5, countries from around the globe celebrated annual World Environment Day. Each year, this international holiday stimulates environmental awareness and encourages political attention and public action with events such as beach clean-ups, concerts, exhibits, and tree plantings.
Leading all-inclusive hotelier Barceló Hotels and Resorts continues to play an important role in the travel and tourism industry’s worldwide environmental efforts. Many of the Barceló properties have even earned the prestigious Gold and Silver Green Globe Certifications, recognizing their excellence in sustainability. In order to achieve such an honor, these Barceló properties were audited by an independent, third party Green Globe auditor. The properties demonstrated environmental achievements among internationally accepted criteria.
On a corporate level, Barceló Hotels and Resorts has initiated sustainable efforts in the following six categories: waste management; power-saving and biodegradable products; sustainable design and construction; training to obtain greater ecological awareness among employees and staff; shared information inviting guests to reuse towels and sheets; and restoration of the native ecosystem surrounding the resorts.
Barceló Hotels and Resorts invites guests to join them in their environmental efforts and energy saving practices, not just on World Environment Day but every day. Tourists can enjoy the beautiful nature and beaches surrounding the resorts, all while relaxing in the comfort of knowing these are environmentally friendly accommodations.
