Corinthia Hotels International announced the appointment of well-known Italian hotelier Italico Rota as general manager of its Malta flagship property, the five-star Corinthia Palace Hotel in Attard, Malta. Mr Rota is a seasoned hotelier with extensive experience across the entire spectrum of the tourism industry and the upscale hotel trade in particular.

Mr Rota’s distinguished career started at the Maggia International Hotel School in Stresa, Italy, to be followed by further education at the Ecole Hoteliere in Switzerland and Cornell University in New York, USA.

Following his studies, Mr Rota held senior management positions in several top class hotels, including the Grand Hotel Principe e Savoia in Milan, Gritti Palace Hotel in Venice, Grand Excelsior hotels in Florence and Rome, the Plaza and the Pierre hotels in New York, Sonesta Carlton Tower in London, Hotel Ta Cenc in Gozo and Grand Hotel El Conviento in Puerto Rico.

Commenting on his new appointment Mr Rota said “Despite my long career in the hospitality industry I always relish a new challenge when it comes my way. And what more enticing a challenge than to share my knowledge and experience with the highly motivated staff of this evergreen ‘Grand Lady’ of Corinthia Hotels, with its glorious history and undisputed class.”

Mr Rota lays claim to many honours received throughout his illustrious career, among them the Golden Helm International - Berlin, Premio Excellent - Milan, Premio Ospitalità ENIT - Rome, Maitre d’Enologie de la Societe des Anysetiers and Maitre Restaurateur de la Chaine des Rotisseurs – Paris. He has also been given official recognition by the Italian state as Cavaliere Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana al merito del lavoro all’estero.
