Less than three months after making Travel + Leisure (US) magazine’s prestigious annual compendium of the World’s 500 Best Hotels, Anantara Hua Hin has taken its appeal to another level with three fresh features — a garden walk, pool bar and poolside restaurant.

Imagined by renowned landscape gardener Bill Bensley, the hotel’s garden is a kaleidoscope of hundreds of plant species indigenous to Thailand. The garden walk brings many of their stories to the guest with an intuitive and descriptive map that is also a lesson in Thai culture and history.

Adjacent to the garden, a new pool bar — called Loy Nam — offers snacks and beverages without ever having to leave the water. For those who would rather eat and drink in a dry environment, they need not relocate — the versatile venue is flanked by a stylish collection of charcoal-coloured day beds, all of which are shaded by a massive palapa.

On the other side of the pool, Rim Nam Restaurant dazzles diners with authentic Thai and traditional regional dishes. Guests can also order Inventive fusion combinations with an emphasis on zesty ingredients.

“Our aim was to make all the new amenities fit together perfectly,” said Tim Boda, general manager of Anantara Hua Hin. “And I think they do. Each activity appeals to one sense or another.”

Designed and built in the image of an ancient Thai village, Anantara Hua Hin is among the most acclaimed resorts in Hua Hin. In addition to the recent Travel + Leisure accolade, it was voted one of the top 10 spa experiences in the world by Conde Nast Traveller (UK) magazine readers in 2007.

Hua Hin’s assets have been attracting holiday seekers since 1921, when a railway station and hotel were erected to service elite train travellers between Bangkok and Singapore.

Today, Hua Hin is the full-time residence of the world’s longest serving monarch — His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej — and a haven for golfers, water sports mavens, spa goers and wine enthusiasts.
