The International SPA Association (ISPA) and Smith Travel Research (STR) are pleased to announce that the Spa STAR report, a benchmarking tool for all types of spas, is now available. The report will aid spas in making well-informed and more profitable operating decisions. The online Spa STAR report allows spas to enter in data in three main categories: treatments (such as massages and facials), salon (such as manicure, pedicure and hair) and retail.

Every month STR will track nine performance metrics including:
· Total number of treatments.
· Total amount of treatment revenue.
· Total number of treatment room hours available.
· Total number of treatment room hours used.
· Total number of salon services.
· Total number of salon service revenue.
· Total number of salon station hours available.
· Total number of salon station hours used.
· Total retail revenue.

This tool will allow spa participants to pull Spa STAR reports showing monthly and historical performances, enabling them to benchmark against other spas.

Members of ISPA will receive an exclusive one-year STR discount when they begin participating in the competitive set analysis. ISPA President Lynne McNees said, “ISPA is proud to offer our members a way to accurately compare themselves to spas in their area. STR is at the forefront of the benchmarking arena, and has provided valuable market share analysis for all the major international hotel chains and brands for 25 years. Now, spas will have the same advantages.”

“We are excited to make the most actionable, timely spa information available to ISPA members,” commented STR Vice President Jan D. Freitag. “At the web site spa.str.com users can easily input their data, retrieve STAR reports and have the latest information at their fingertips. We look forward to working with ISPA members and the industry at large to build participation in the Spa STAR program and give better insights into the trends that shape our industry.”
