Victoria’s archetypal coastal experience, whale watching, and the perennial favourite, stunning Butchart Gardens, top the “wow” chart for visitors. Wrapping it up with a stay at Magnolia Hotel & Spa, Victoria’s four-diamond, European-style luxury boutique hotel creates the ultimate Victoria experience with our Orcas and Orchids package. View the rest of this story

There are three pods of resident Orca (or Killer Whales) around the Gulf and San Juan Islands. Resident orca are the extroverts of the species, travelling in large pods, vocalizing freely, and often swimming within easy sighting distance of boats. This three and a half hour tour gives a glimpse into the lives of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, before tying to the private dock at Butchart Gardens for an afternoon of contrast. Butchart is literally a world famous garden of earthly delights, created out of the dream of its original owner, where every season reveals a different beauty. Every view is framed in perfect harmony and symmetry, with surprising juxtapositions and scent infused pathways.

The four-diamond, luxury boutique Magnolia Hotel is infused with European elegance and has its own wow factor. Guestrooms feature downtown and harbour views, custom-designed two-poster beds, floor to-ceiling windows that open, and fireplaces for diamond level rooms. The opulent bathrooms feature marble cladding, separate glass walk-in showers and deep soaker tubs for the ultimate in bathing and relaxation. Attention to detail and service are in evidence everywhere, with sculptural floral displays in the lobby and complimentary continental breakfast served daily. Wow!

Prime Steakhouse & Lounge adjacent to the Magnolia’s lobby, is the perfect place to recount the day’s adventure. This steak lover’s paradise offers six cuts of steak. On-site dry aging and the over fired broiler produce flavor and juice with a crisp crust. Other features on the menu include a selection of salads, light entrées, fresh seafood, poultry, pasta, lamb – and Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday. Their extensive wine list has the ideal vintage to compliment each course.
