Maiden Call in Almeria Joins other Spanish Treasures

From Picasso to paella, Spain’s rich history, art, architecture and cuisine is the focus of Crystal Cruises’ new Mediterranean itinerary in October.

Award-winning Crystal Serenity sails a new route from Rome, calling in Barcelona, home of Gaudí’s masterpieces; Valencia, where classic Spanish paella was first perfected; Málaga, birthplace of Pablo Picasso, and a maiden visit to Almería, known for its expansive coastline and beaches. Late night and overnight calls enable guests to even enjoy Spain’s cultural treasures, outdoor adventures and vivacious nightlife.

“Each year we add new ports to our comprehensive Europe collection -- sprinkling less familiar cities with the known hot spots,” says Bill Smith, senior vice president, sales & marketing. “Crystal guests enjoy places that offer a variety of travel experiences, and Spain is currently one of the most favored tourist destinations for travelers worldwide.”

Numerous culinary and cultural Crystal Adventures ashore complement exclusive experiences– like a private apartment visit in Gaudí’s famed La Pedrera House – and aerial adventures like helicopter and paragliding experiences.

The 11-day, October 31 voyage also calls in Naples and Sicily, Italy; Valetta, Malta; and Tunis, Tunisia.

Among the noted history and world affairs speakers slated for this cruise are former Washington Post bureau chief Thomas Lippmann (also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations) and Dr. Jay Wolff of Florida Gulf Coast University’s Renaissance Academy and a commentator on the History Channel.
With Crystal’s two-for-one promotion, per person, double occupancy, fares start at US$5,080, including US$1,000 per person ‘All Inclusive – As You Wish’ shipboard credits, and free air transportation from many North American gateways, as well as Business Class air for Penthouse guests.

Travelers have voted Crystal Cruises the winner of the hospitality industry’s most coveted awards: World’s Best Large Cruise Line by the readers of Travel + Leisure (for 14 consecutive years), Best Large-Ship Cruise Line by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine (for 16 years), and highest rated large ships, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, in the latter magazine’s February 2010 issue.
