Benchmark Hospitality International has opened new corporate offices in The Woodlands, Texas, outside of Houston. After nearly 30 years in the previous location, Benchmark outgrew the premises, necessitating the move. During the past few years in the previous location, the company had grown to occupy two floors. In the new space, all departments, including 42 executives and supporting staff, are once again housed on one floor.
“We’re thrilled with our new and expanded Home Office, and to have all our departments together again,” said Burt Cabañas, Benchmark’s Founder, Chairman and CEO. “It’s a perfect way to mark our 30th Anniversary and to begin our next decade of growth.”
Mr. Cabañas and Benchmark Hospitality shared the ribbon-cutting celebration with Alex Sutton, President of The Woodlands Development Company and developer of the building housing Benchmark’s new offices, and Jon Eisele, Partner, Deloitte University Campus, Deloitte LLP. Mr. Eisele was Benchmark’s first client to visit the new offices.
Burt Cabañas launched Benchmark Hospitality International in 1980 with The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center. At the time a senior executive within the hotel industry, Cabañas joined the Woodlands Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitchell Energy & Development Corp., to reposition The Woodlands Resort and The Woodlands Country Club. Benchmark was established as the management company to oversee the process. In 1982, Mr. Cabañas launched a rapid growth plan for Benchmark, and in 1986, he bought the company outright from The Woodlands Corporation in a leveraged buyout. Today Benchmark Hospitality International operates a portfolio of 30 luxury hotels, resorts and conference centers in locations coast to coast, off shore and in Japan.
