CANDLE LIT EVENTS MAKE THEME FOR THIS YEAR
To celebrate Earth Hour in 2010, Sofitel Luxury Hotels are launching a series of candle lit events to support this fantastic cause. All over the world, Sofitel will be switching off their lights, cutting their electricity and illuminating the dark with candles. Already environmentally aware with their initiatives and programmes, Earth Hour 2010 marks a new phase in reducing Accor’s carbon footprint by advocating ecological and energy conservation activities, involving employees and clients to enhance the social awareness and symbolize sustainable development.
In Bali, Sofitel Seminyak Bali will host a happy hour with an array of cocktails and a specially designed lunch menu made with organic and vegetarian produce. A candle lit dinner will be held in celebration, with a set menu designed by Patrick Marty, guests will be invited to stroll around the torch lit gardens and indulge in an eco-friendly feast.
Sofitel Plaza Hanoi will be treated to an opera performance and specially designed cocktails in Song Hong Bar and Summit Lounge. Half of the cocktail’s revenue will be donated to WWF and red roses will decorate the Song Hong Bar. The hotel’s restaurants will be individually themed, “Fire and Ice” and “Metal and Wood”, and each will serve a specially selected organic vegetarian menu. In addition to this, a candle-lit in room dining package will be available all weekend for guests who wish to support the cause.
Staff will be getting involved at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, where the housekeeping will wear glow in the dark items and wear glow in the dark face paint. The garden lounge will host the Earth Hour event, decorated with beautiful lanterns, guests will be able to gaze at the stars and appreciate nature at its finest.
Guests at Sofitel Wanda Harbin will be able to watch ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ on LCD screens at the front and the back of the hotel, as well as this, hotel staff will be trained for Earth Guest Month and many of the hotels’ non-essential electrical facilities will be switched off on March 27th.

In Australia, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, Sofitel Brisbane Central and Sofitel Melbourne on Collins are working hard to ensure that Earth Hour is as positive and beneficial to the environment as possible. Like many of the other hotels, non essential electricity will be switched off and dim lights will be used throughout. Guests will be treated to an extra special cocktail hour and the hotel will be romantically lit with candles. All guests will be informed of the events and will be encouraged to take part. Sofitel Goldcoast Broadbeach will light the entire hotel with candles creating a spectacular setting. They aim to use 1000 additional candles to create this effect.
