Amsterdam Marriott Hotel, Marriott’s First Hotel in Europe, Completes Multi-Million Euro Restoration
In March 1975, Marriott International opened its first hotel in Europe, the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel. Since that first venture in Europe, the Marriott portfolio has now grown to over 3,400 properties in 68 countries around the world with 174 hotels across 24 countries in Europe.
Today the newly-renovated Amsterdam Marriott Hotel celebrates the company’s 35th anniversary in Europe. Amy McPherson, president and managing director of Marriott International in Europe joined guests, dignitaries including US Ambassador to the Netherlands Fay Hartog Levin and Mayor of Amsterdam Job Cohen, and associates (including six associates who have been with the hotel for its entire history) to mark the occasion. "This is such an exciting time for Marriott in Europe -- we have a dynamic new team in place and look forward to future investment and accelerating our growth in Europe,” said McPherson.
With a new team and organization in place, McPherson has a clear vision for Marriott in the Europe with a focus on building brand awareness for its core brands: JW Marriott, Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard, Ritz Carlton and Marriott Executive Apartments as well as driving new hotel development throughout Europe.
The occasion also marked the completion of the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel’s recent multi-million euro renovation. The Amsterdam Marriott Hotel now sets the standard for five-star hotels in the city. The stylish new lobby is the heart of the hotel and reinvents the way guests socialize, work and relax. Featuring a contemporary design style, the new lobby concept breaks down architectural barriers, creating adaptable spaces enabling guests to easily meet and work or casually dine in the vibrant open space.
Many of the hotel’s new design elements represent new brand standards for Marriott Hotels & Resorts throughout Europe, including the revitalized lobby space, guestrooms, meeting space and restaurants and lounges.
The hotel’s new bar and dining concepts include Midtown Grill, a New York style steak house, Sorel’s, a fashionable lounge featuring a glittering diamond bar and columns and Midtown Cigar Club– a classic cigar lounge.
The hotel features 395 newly restored guestrooms making it one of the largest five-star hotels in Amsterdam. All rooms feature luxurious bedding and the latest in-room technology.
“This is a proud moment for all of our associates who make the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel such a specialMHRS Amsterdam Corner Exec Room hotel,” said Ronny Maier, general manager of the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel. “We hope that former guests and new guests alike will come here and discover a completely transformed hotel, and enjoy amenities that are unlike any they have experienced in Amsterdam.”
To celebrate its 35th anniversary, the Amsterdam Marriott is offering a special “Dutch Experience” package that includes:
