London, New York, Brussels, Washington, Berlin, Chicago, Rome, Los Angeles… all year long, on both sides of the Atlantic, Sofitel hotels are hosting the itinerant « Fashion Stills » photo show.
In the wake of the successful show at Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg (France), in 2010, Sofitel Luxury Hotels is once again teaming up with the famous Parisian Polka Gallery to present this unique and timeless exhibition in North America and Europe.
Linking the hotels via a story that travels between North America and Europe, this exhibition reveals the world of fashion through the lens of four world-famous photographers. A total of ten Sofitel, all ambassadors of French culture and elegance, will take turns to become the link between the two continents.
Four star photographers, Derek Hudson, Cathleen Naundorf, Jean-Marie Périer and Gérard Uféras, immortalise emblematic faces of the fashion runway and capture unique instants from the secret world of Haute Couture, behind the scenes at Dior, Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Yves St Laurent…
In a symbolic gesture, the show has opened simultaneously at Sofitel New York (United States) and Sofitel London St. James (United Kingdom) on February 9th 2010, to coincide with the launch of Fashion Week in New York. Two opening previews have also been organised at the same time, attended by two of the four photographers taking part, Cathleen Naundorf in New York and Derek Hudson in London.
Cathleen Naundorf
Born in 1968, the German photographer Cathleen Naundorf is particularly famous for her painterly photographic vision making use of polaroid image transfer. The originality of her work has led to a close working relationship with John Galliano and Jean-Paul Gaultier. Today she is in great demand in the milieu of Haute Couture.
Derek Hudson
This English photographer fell in love with photography at a very early age, inspired by 1960s films like Antonioni ‘s « Blow-Up ». When he moved to London, he met the famous photojournalist Terry Fincher, who would become his mentor. For many years, Derek Hudson’s vision of the world could be seen in the pages of « Life Magazine ».
