• The Spanish hotel chain extends growth in Latin America with a new hotel scheduled to open in July
• Meliá Barranquilla and Meliá Cartagena de Indias are the other two hotels to join the company in Colombia
Sol Meliá, the leading hotel company in Spain and Latin America, has reached an agreement to add a new franchised hotel in Colombia to its portfolio to be operated under the urban Tryp brand.
Tryp Medellín, located in the city of Medellín, is a four star hotel perfectly adapted to the design standards of the Tryp brand and providing 140 rooms over 14 floors, a gym, car park and space for meetings and events measuring over 300 square metres.
The hotel is scheduled to open in July and is located opposite the site of the 2010 Ibero-American Games to be hosted by Medellín, the second largest city in the country with three million inhabitants.
This latest additions helps Sol Meliá reaffirm its commitment and positioning in Latin America, and particularly in Colombia, a growing travel destination. Tryp Medellín becomes the third hotel for the company in Colombia, after the announcement last December of the incorporation of the Meliá Barranquilla and Meliá Cartagena de Indias. These two five star hotels will be operated under management agreements and provide more than 500 rooms when they open in 2012.
