The Westin St. John Resort & Villas today announced the appointment of William Ryan as the resort’s new executive chef. William brings 25 years of culinary experience in both restaurants and the hospitality industry.
As executive chef at Westin St. John, William oversees all culinary programs at the resort, including menus at Snorkel’s Bar & BBQ, Beach Café & Bar and the brand-new Cruz Bay Prime restaurant featuring steak and seafood in a fine dining setting.
Most recently, William served as executive chef at the Westin Resort and Spa Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. During his ten years on property, he held multiple food & beverage posts. Promoted to executive chef in 2003, he designed and implemented seasonal menus for seven dining outlets, created a new electronic menu program for banquet and catering and developed trendsetting menus utilizing sustainable foods.
William has also worked for several top Vermont restaurants and served as Corporate Chef and Culinary Teacher at the University of South Carolina. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including five American Culinary Federation Medals, the Murrells Inlet Seafood Award and First Place Award in the Carolina Chili Cook-Off (three-time recipient). His recipes have been featured in The New York Times, Gourmet Magazine, Master Chef’s Institute and many other leading publications.
