• The company has added twenty hotels to its portfolio during 2009, including three new hotels in Cartagena de Indias, Barranquilla (both in Colombia) and Braga (Portugal).
Sol Meliá, the world’s leading resort hotel chain, close the year 2009 adding three new hotels to its portfolio, two of them in Colombia (first entry into this market) and one more in Portugal.
The Meliá Cartagena, located on the road Vía al Mar, from the tourist city of Cartagena de Indias, will be a five- star hotel which provide 268 rooms and a wide range of services, such as spa, gym, an extensive choice of restaurants, meeting rooms and the exclusive “The Level” lounge. The building will also house a shopping center and a 1,000m2 Casino.
The Meliá Barranquilla will be located in the seaside town of Barranquilla, one of the most important commercial ports in the Caribbean Sea. The hotel will provide 253 rooms and a large convention center for more than 1,000 people.
The growing tourist interest of both Colombian towns is a priority for Sol Meliá, as well as the condo-hotel arrangement: a property shared between various private investors.
The landmark hotel in Braga
In addition, Sol Meliá will manage a new hotel in Braga (Portugal), whose opening is scheduled for June 2010, and is bound to become the landmark hotel in the city. Located in the main development district, the four-star luxury Meliá Braga Hotel & Spa will provide 180 rooms as well as the best meeting rooms in the city.
The hotel company has added twenty hotels during the year to its portfolio, according to its brand’s development strategy, and will keep on growing within the next two years under management, lease or franchise agreements.
