• The agreement means Sol Meliá will now operate its third hotel in Marbella.
• Superior knowledge of the domestic market and the strength of the Meliá brand, key factors behind the change in management.
Inversiones Hoteleras La Quinta, S.A., owner of the Hotel La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa, and Sol Meliá have signed an agreement for the management of the hotel, located in the exclusive La Quinta resort in Marbella, operated until now by Starwood under the Westin brand.
Sol Meliá will operate the Hotel under its Meliá hotel brand from January, giving time for the implementation of Meliá brand standards before the hotel reopens for the season in March. The hotel will be operated under a management agreement, the most frequent means by which Sol Meliá adds hotels to its portfolio.
The hotel will become the third property operated by Sol Meliá in Marbella, alongside the Gran Meliá Don Pepe and Meliá Marbella Dinamar. It provides 172 rooms with views over the golf course or Mediterranean Sea, a splendid Spa which will be converted to the Meliá “Yhi Spa” brand, and an area for children which makes it an ideal destination for families that love the coast or a round of golf. According to Sol Meliá, these features make the new Meliá La Quinta “the perfect complement for our current structure in the destination, allowing our guests to enjoy in Marbella the very best of international cuisine, fantastic meeting and event facilities, the best golf course and the most famous beach club, all without ever leaving Meliá Hotels.”
The synergies will directly benefit Sol Meliá customers given that guests at the Meliá La Quinta, Meliá Dinamar and Gran Meliá Don Pepe will now all be able to enjoy the Beach Club services provided at the Gran Meliá Don Pepe, and one of the best golf courses in Andalusia, located at the new Meliá La Quinta.
The new Meliá La Quinta will become the fourth Sol Meliá hotel in Spain with a golf course (the eighth worldwide), another sign of the high value that the Spanish hotel chain attaches to sports facilities to help generate even higher quality tourism.
A growing brand
For many decades Meliá has been synonymous with quality, passion for service and unbeatable locations. In recent months Sol Meliá has signed agreements to add 11 new hotels to the Meliá brand, the most widely recognised and prestigious of its brands, now with a total of almost 25,000 rooms in more than 90 hotels in 22 countries, and in which the company has invested more than 300 million euros in hotel renovations over the last 4 years.
The new Meliá Hotel de la Reconquista, Meliá Valencia, Meliá Bilbao, Meliá Dusseldorf, Meliá Luxembourg, Meliá Algarve, Meliá Isla Margarita (Venezuela), Meliá Lake Batak (Bulgaria), Meliá Sharm (Egypt) and Meliá Tortugas or Meliá Dunas (both in Cabo Verde) join the new Meliá La Quinta as some of the hotels most recently added to a portfolio which continues to grow in line with the expectations of Meliá guests.
The demonstrated management and sales capacity of the Spanish hotel chain, together with its superior knowledge of the domestic market and growing awareness of the Sol Meliá hotel brands in different source markets – results of the application of the company Strategic Plan – are factors which the hotel company consider assist this rapid growth.
