The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, has received Meetings & Conventions magazine’s prestigious “2009 Gold Key Award,” which recognizes the world’s finest meeting facilities. The resort, which completed a comprehensive $10 million property-wide renovation in July 2008, has garnered numerous prestigious awards this past year, which includes Association Meetings magazine’s “Inner Circle Award,” Meetings & Conventions magazine’s “Gold Tee Award,” and Marriott International’s “Best Renovation of the Year Award” for a franchised property at the Marriott International National Association (MINA) conference. This marks the third consecutive year the resort has received the “Gold Key Award.”

Together with the adjoining St. Johns County Convention Center and the adjacent World Golf Hall of Fame, the 301-room Northeast Florida resort is the largest combination hotel and conference center between Atlanta and Orlando, with 86,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

The “Gold Key Award” recognizes the top meeting hotels and resorts in the world. Winners were nominated and selected by the subscribers of the highly-read magazine, who are responsible for planning meetings, incentives, and conventions. The winning hotels and resorts will be highlighted in Meetings & Conventions’ special “Gold Awards” supplement in its November 2009 issue.

“Consistently receiving honors like this shows what an outstanding choice The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village is for meetings, incentive programs, and conventions,” said Mark Schwantner, general manager of the resort. “These awards can be attributed to our newly-renovated resort, the first-class service we provide, our exceptional recreational offerings on-site and nearby, and our outstanding meeting venues. It is a wonderful resort, and it is very nice to be recognized with this prestigious award.”

Located within the lush 6,300-acre World Golf Village right next to the World Golf Hall of Fame, the resort completed the $10 million renovation in July 2008. The project included the complete remodeling of all 301 guest rooms and suites, dramatic changes to the resort’s lobby atrium and entry area, remodeling of all guest room corridors, an expanded fitness center with new state-of-the-art equipment, remodeling of its billiard room, and enhancements to the meeting offerings and business center. The resort also remodeled its restaurant and bar, which opened as a new restaurant and bar called 500 South, An American Grill.

Guest rooms and suites now feature new furniture, soft goods, window treatments, lighting, flat-panel screen LCD HDTV televisions, and the signature Marriott JackPack, which provides connectivity for laptops, MP3 players, digital cameras, and video game players. The rooms and suites feature a contemporary design with an Asian feel, which includes rich red bed coverings with crisp white linens, and warm neutral gold accents. In-room offerings also include high-speed Internet access, two telephones with data ports, a wet bar, refrigerator, and in-room coffee.

The entry of the resort boasts beautiful new flooring, wood-wrapped columns, and accents of the Florida citrus colors. The entry leads to a dramatically remodeled 10-story atrium lobby, which now has a Colonial/Asian theme with new furniture, carpeting and foliage, as well as a colorful new 7-story modern hanging sculpture that captures the wind and air elements, reminiscent of open Florida skies.

Whether you’re seeking a golfer’s paradise or a lush resort getaway, The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village has something for everyone. Featuring a wealth of recreational offerings that appeal to golfers and non-golfers alike, the resort enables you to play golf on two of the country’s finest golf courses (King & Bear, and Slammer & Squire), enjoy a soothing service at the world-class PGA TOUR Spa Laterra, experience the renowned PGA TOUR Golf Academy, relax on a nearby beach, and explore the wonders of America’s oldest city, St. Augustine.

On-site offerings at The Renaissance Resort include a professional golf simulator, a sauna, pool, hot tub, tennis courts, and full-service concierge. Guests also are an easy walk to The World Golf Hall of Fame’s 18-hole putting course, the 132-yard Island Challenge Hole, an IMAX® Theater, and the Walk of Champions.

Guests also can explore St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city. Founded in 1565, the area is rich with Spanish architecture, with charming cobblestone streets and many fascinating historical sites. Guests can visit the historic Castillo de San Marcos fort, The Fountain of Youth, and the nation’s Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse.
